Chapter 34 Crossing a Line

In that moment, Elina didn’t think-she just moved. That instinct, that weight of being a mother, kicked in and pushed her forward.
“I’m sorry,” she said calmly. “We’ll take care of the medical expenses.”
The woman scoffed. “Well, isn’t that generous? Did you think I was going to pay for it myself? It’s not like we can’t afford it. But the fact you even hesitated is insulting.”
Her voice was sharp, relentless. And Elina could tell-if they weren’t standing in the middle of a police station, the woman would’ve come at her already.
Still, there was no denying it. Jaslyn had gone too far. No matter the reason, the damage was real.
Elina drew in a deep breath. “Alright. What do you want? Just tell us, and we’ll do our best to work it out.”
It’s not like a kid that young would end up with something permanent on her record over a schoolyard fight.
And if it came down to money, the Mansor family could pay whatever it took.
What really worried Elina was whether that woman would actually let the whole thing go-or if she’d keep coming after Jaslyn just to make a point.
“Apologize,” the woman snapped, eyes locked on Jaslyn. Elina had barely begun to feel relieved when the woman added, “On her knees. In front of the whole school. I want her to apologize to my son in front of everyone.”
Elina froze. Her face turned cold. “Don’t you think that’s a little much?”
“Too far?” the woman snapped. “Was it too far when your little brat clawed up my son’s face? Like mother, like daughter-no manners, no decency. Raised, but clearly never taught right.”
The words came fast and sharp, each one thrown like a slap-cruel, deliberate, and meant to hurt
Elina’s expression turned stone cold, but before she could respond, Jack stepped forward and spoke first.
“My daughter hit your son, and that’s why I’ve tolerated your attitude up to now. But if you keep running your mouth, I won’t think twice about adding your medical bills to the list.”
Just like that, the woman’s fire died down.
She stared at Jack, clearly not as eager to push him as she was with Elina.
“Are you threatening me?” she muttered, then turned toward the officer. “Did you hear that? They raised a violent kid, and now they’re threatening me, right here at the station.”
After she finished, she kept glancing toward the doors, eyes tense-like she was waiting for someone to show up.
The officer cleared his throat. “If you’re here to settle this, then sit down and talk it through. No more

A few minutes later, they were led into a small room and took seats across from one another.
Elina’s eyes fell on Jaslyn, who still refused to leave Elowyn’s lap. And something about it didn’t sit right.
Before Elowyn returned to the picture, Elina had been the one raising Jaslyn.
She’d always taught her to be strong and independent. Sure, Jaslyn was a little clingy and loved to cuddle- out when things got tough, she never ran or hid.
But now? That confidence was gone.
She stayed curled up in Elowyn’s arms, timid and distant-nothing like the little girl Elina had raised.
Finally, the officer laid out the full story.
A boy named Wesley Blooks had shouted, “Your Aunt Elowyn’s a mistress.”
And Jaslyn had lost it. She hit him.
Wesley hit back. Jaslyn came back even harder. Scratched his face. Bit his ear-bad enough to draw blood.
As the details settled in, Elina felt a wave of regret. She shouldn’t have come.
This wasn’t her issue. This was between Jack, Elowyn, and Jaslyn.
And yet… her eyes stayed locked on Jaslyn.
This wasn’t like her. Jaslyn wasn’t violent. She wasn’t the kind of kid to snap over a few words.
So why now?
aslyn peeked up at Elina, hesitant and cautious.
