Chapter 41 Daddy, Can Aunt Elowyn Stay?
When Jaslyn heard Elowyn’s voice, she turned around and exclaimed with delight, “Mommy’s on TV!”
Elowyn glanced at the screen, a trace of contempt curling at the corner of her lips-but it vanished in an
instant.
“You’ve been home all by yourself today; did you miss Aunt Elowyn?” she asked, deliberately sidestepping Jaslyn’s comment and steering the conversation elsewhere.
Jaslyn nodded eagerly. “I did! Aunt Elowyn, are you staying over tonight?”
A flush crept up Elowyn’s cheeks; she snuck a quick glance at Jack, who had just come out of the bathroom.
“Well, that depends on whether your daddy says it’s okay.”
“He’ll definitely say yes!”
Jaslyn wrapped her arms around her joyfully.
Jack, though clearly within earshot of their exchange, said nothing.
The air grew tense for a moment; Elowyn cleared her throat and offered brightly, “Why don’t we watch a cartoon?”
Surprisingly, Jaslyn shook her head. “No, I want to show Aunt Elowyn something really cool.”
Clutching the remote, she clicked a few buttons with practiced ease. A medical documentary started playing on the screen.
“Aunt Elowyn, this one’s good. Mommy used to watch it with me every day.”
What could a child possibly understand? She simply wanted to share something she liked with Elowyn.
But the moment Elina’s name came up, Elowyn’s expression subtly changed.
On the TV, the documentary showed a surgical procedure-raw and unfiltered.
Elowyn’s brows drew together in discomfort, while Jaslyn, completely absorbed, followed along with the narration, correctly identifying the organs and procedures on display.
Elowyn bit her lip; unable to hold back, she deliberately raised her voice. “Jaslyn, how can you be watching this sort of thing?”
At the kitchen island, Jack poured himself a glass of water.
Hearing the commotion in the living room, he glanced over, his face unreadable,
“You’re still a kid, you shouldn’t be watching something so bloody. Now Aunt Elowyn understands why you were being so aggressive today-it must be because of this.”

Finished
Jaslyn was too engrossed in the documentary to register what Elowyn was saying.
But Elowyn wasn’t really talking to her anyway; her words were meant for Jack.
When she noticed the faint crease between Jack’s brows, Elowyn knew her strategy was working, and her voice took on more momentum.
“Did your mom watch it with you, or did she make you watch it? Honestly, your sister’s too much, just because she loves medicine doesn’t mean she should force it on a kid.”
“Enough.”
Jack’s sudden outburst startled both Elowyn and Jaslyn on the couch.
Jaslyn turned to him, wide-eyed, as he strode over.
Without another word, he switched off the TV and said coolly, “Jaslyn, go wash up for dinner. And from now on, no more watching that.”
Jaslyn’s lips pouted in protest; she looked upset, but still hopped off the couch and ran off to find Lisa.
Jack’s expression was grim, his eyes cold.
Seeing this, Elowyn couldn’t hide the gleam of satisfaction in her eyes.
Looks like just the mention of Elina is enough to set him off. It won’t be long now before I kick that annoying mother- daughter pair out for good, become Mrs. Mansor, and have Jack all to myself.
Jack tossed the remote aside and headed toward the dining room.
He didn’t know Elowyn was smiling behind him, unable to contain her glee-but he did know that the harder he tried to push thoughts of Elina from his mind, the more maddeningly he missed her.
He missed her sitting on the couch with Jaslyn, watching medical documentaries together; the way she’d cover their daughter’s eyes with animated flair.
He missed her gentle voice, patiently explaining surgeries and procedures to Jaslyn.
He missed the way she’d take Jaslyn to wash her hands, coaxing her along with playful charm.
Damn it! That stubborn woman still refused to back down or return, even insisted on filing for divorce.
