Chapter 46 Not Even a Side Glance
Finished
Even Jack himself hadn’t noticed when it started, but he had long since begun paying close attention to Elina’s every reaction.
Upon hearing those words, Elina fell silent.
She packed up her things and said to Dennis, “I’ll go get the prescription filled.”
Then she left. Throughout the entire process, she didn’t spare Jack a single glance. When she passed by him, her gaze stayed forward, steady and indifferent, as if he didn’t exist in the room at all.
It wasn’t until the faint scent lingering from Elina had completely dissipated that Jack tilted his head and saw her figure disappear beyond the door.
A hellow emptiness welled up in his chest; it left a bitter taste. Strange, when did Elina become someone who could tug at my heartstrings? And all she did was walk past me.
Elowyn leaned against Jack’s arm. She wasn’t crying anymore, but her voice trembled as she said, “Jack. you talked to Elina like that for me, but what if you’ve upset her again?”
Jack came back to himself. He didn’t push her away; his expression merely turned colder, more unreadable.
Watching the two behave as if no one else were in the room, Dennis pursed his lips, then finally spoke to interrupt.
“Jack. Mr. Benjamin really can’t be disturbed right now.”
Jack nodded, but before he could say anything, Elowyn quickly spoke up, her tone soft and gentle. “I’m sorry, Dr. Dennis. I couldn’t help it, I was just so worried about Mr. Benjamin.”
Dennis gave her a glance, replying coolly, “Once he wakes up, it’d be best not to cry in front of him, don’t risk stirring up. That would be bad for his health.”
Elowyn apologized repeatedly. Dennis looked away from her and turned back to Jack.
He offered a few reminders in scattered bits and pieces, always returning to the same points out of
concern.
Once he had finally finished going over the necessary follow-ups, he let out a heavy sigh.
“Mr. Benjamin worries most about you and Lina. If there’s a chance, let Lina spend more time with him. It’s just that Lina has to leave for her studies-”
He hadn’t finished when Elowyn suddenly interjected, “Dr. Dennis, Jack and I will definitely take good care of Mr. Benjamin. You’ve worked hard today.”
Her urgency made Dennis raise an eyebrow
“What studies?” Jack, however, hadn’t been distracted. He seized on that one detail
“You didn’t-”
Dennis looked puzzled, beginning to ask, only to be interrupted by Elowyn again.
She leaned into Jack’s arms, letting out a feeble moan. “Jack… I feel dizzy. So awful…”
And just like that, Jack’s attention was successfully diverted.
“Where does it hurt?” he asked, frowning.
Elowyn shook her head, struggling to give a clear answer.
Dennis, not wanting to witness more of their intimate display, didn’t say anything; he simply cleared his throat lightly.
“Jack, I need to check on another patient. I’ll be off. Call me if anything comes up.”
“Thank you. Dr. Dennis.”
After Dennis left, Elowyn continued to cling to Jack for a while.
Once he had helped her into a chair, Jack had already forgotten the question he’d meant to ask earlier.
After leaving the hospital room, Elina first stopped by the nurses’ station. She gave a few instructions, then went to the pharmacy herself to collect the medication.
But she didn’t deliver the medicine personally. Instead, she bundled it together with the bill and had a nurse send it to the room.
When Elowyn heard the nurse’s message, she frowned. “Even if Sis isn’t part of the family anymore, does she really have to forget everything between them? Jack still has to pay for this?”
Her words implied Elina was heartless, that she didn’t appreciate Benjamin’s kindness. –
But she didn’t notice that Jack’s face showed no reaction at all to what she said.
Elowyn bit her lip and fell silent.
It was already 1.00 AM, and the hospital was very quiet.
Elina wasn’t on duty tonight, so she had planned to leave after finishing her tasks.
As she stepped outside, a car’s headlights suddenly lit up in the parking lot.
The harsh glare made her instinctively shield her eyes, mthen she heard Jack’s voice.
I’ll drive you home?
He was sitting in the car.
Elina frowned, ignored him, and turned to walk toward the main exit
The car crept along beside her, refusing to give her any chance to say no, just as she stepped outside the

A gasp drew both their attention. They turned and saw Elowyn, hand over her mouth, eyes wide in shock. as she stared at them.
Jack instinctively stepped away from Elina. He gave her one last look, then walked out of the elevator.
“Jack…” Elowyn’s voice was trembling, on the verge of tears. “Am I interrupting something between you
and Elina?”
Jack cleared his throat. “No. When did you get here?”
He quickly changed the subject, though guilt still clung to his tone.
Elina watched them, silently pressing the elevator button, eyes averted. But Elowyn, standing just outside, reached for the open-door button and looked at her with sadness and hurt in her eyes. She choked up as she spoke.
“Mr. Benjamin wants to see Elina. I was just about to go look for her… but since she’s already here, why not go in first and see him?”
She looked like she was about to cry at any second.
Elina’s gaze darkened; her voice turned cold. “I have patients to see. I’ll visit Mr. Benjamin after my shift.”
She had no intention of staying another second around them and continued to press the elevator button.
But the doors remained open.
Elowyn refused to give up. She stepped into the elevator and grabbed Elina’s arm. “You’re already here, just a quick visit, that’s all.”
Elina was irritated now; she frowned and snapped, “Do you not understand plain English?”
“Elina, I just thought Mr. Benjamin loves you the most, so I… please don’t be mad. If you really don’t want to go, then fine…”
Though her words sounded like backing down, she still hadn’t let go of Elina.
Elina yanked her arm free. “Let go.”
“Ah. Elina, you….”
Elowyn fell to the floor; the closing elevator doors nearly hit her head.
Jack, quick on his feet, pressed the button just in time to stop it.
“Elina, what the heck are you doing?” He stepped inside, helped Elowyn up, and glared at Elina in fury
Elina’s brows drew together slightly. She stared at Elowyn, who was now practically draped over Jack, and said coldly. “If you want to put on a show, go find a stage. This is a hospital-not your personal drama yet.”
“You-Jack hadn’t expected that response, his instinct was to lash out again
