Chapter 47 This Is Me Not Caring
Elina’s mocking words somehow took on an entirely different meaning by the time they reached Jack’s
ears.
He stared at her, a confident smirk playing at the corners of his lips. “No matter how well you pretend, not matter how many others you fool, you can’t lie to yourself.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“You still have feelings for me, Elina. Everything you’re doing-it’s all just to get my attention, isn’t it?”
At that, Elina froze slightly. She looked at Jack, eyes wide with disbelief.
Thinking he had struck a nerve, Jack’s smugness deepened.
“I’ll admit, you’ve succeeded,” he said, stepping out of the car and walking toward her, each step deliberate and invasive. “So, what else do you want?”
Jack pondered. Come home; I’ll let the past go.
But once the words reached his lips, they twisted into an interrogation.
Elina raised her hands, pressing them against her chest; the defensive gesture was obvious.
She kept Jack at a distance, the corner of her mouth tugging into a cold, mocking smile. “You think you can give me what I want?”
Jack saw the shine in her eyes and thought she was softening; his heart stirred. He nodded without hesitation. “I can.”
“I want you to stay away from me. From now on, when you see me, act like you don’t know me. And in twenty days, show up at the civil affairs office on time to finalize the divorce.”
She spoke slowly and clearly. Beneath the streetlamp’s dim glow, her lips moved with conviction.
She was pushing him away with harsh, unapologetic words, yet to Jack, it was oddly tantalizing; her rejection made his heart itch.
Before he could say anything, his arm had already circled around her waist.
“Say that again.”
possession.
The words rumbled from his throat like a low growl; there was anger in them, and
Elina’s brows furrowed as she stepped back. “What are you doing? Let go of me,”
The more she resisted, the stronger Jack’s desire became, it surged through him, fierce and undeniable.
He couldn’t explain it, everything Elina did now triggered a primal urge to control her, to claim her,
He had never felt this way about her before. Was it because, the no longer looked at me the way she used to?

feels?
“Come home with me, Elina. Jaslyn’s waiting for you.”
The words slipped out of his mouth as if summoned by some unseen force.
But even as he said it, a shred of reason remained-so he tacked on the last part, almost as a disclaimer.
Elina stared at him. “Is this Mr. Mansor, showing weakness?”
Jack’s expression tightened. His arms pulled her in just a little closer. “Don’t flatter yourself. I just wanted to remind you, you still have a child waiting for you at home.”
“I already told you, I’ll take Jaslyn and leave.”
Her voice carried a trace of irritation now.
“That’s not happening. She’s my daughter.”
“And? Jack, what exactly do you want from me?”
Elina snapped; her eyes blazed with fury.
“That’s what I should be asking you. Do you really think all this back-and-forth is worth it? Stop fighting with Elowyn. I’m not going to divorce you and take away the security you’ve clung to.”
Jack always spoke from on high, his words laced with arrogance, as though he were doing her a favor.
Elina had had enough. She shoved him away, hard.
“Let me say it again, stay away from me!” Her voice dripped with disdain. “Before you say things like that, maybe ask yourself, what exactly do you have that’s worth fighting over?”
Her body trembled with rage.
“Get real. Sure, there was a time I hoped for something from you, but your love? It was never that important to me. Stop imagining I’m doing all this to become your wife, or to make you care about me. I’m not Elowyn. And don’t come near me again, or I’ll call for help. When the mighty Mr. Mansor of Mansor Group loses face, don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
