Chapter 49 Didn’t Ask for Your Tears
Elina no longer wanted to hear anything about Jack; she quickly agreed just to cut Xenon off mid-
sentence.
“Fine, no more conditions. You don’t need to say anything else.”
She felt a headache coming on; Xenon’s usual aloof demeanor was beginning to crumble a little.
“It’s late, I need to get some sleep. Hope you have a good day at work.”
His tone was a bit lighter, the happiness in his voice impossible to miss. Elina couldn’t help but smile. “Good night. Sweet dreams.”
After hanging up, she glanced at the time, hurriedly cleared the table, headed downstairs, found the car, and drove straight to the hospital.
Thank goodness Xenon had sent that gift this morning; otherwise, she probably would’ve been late.
After parking, she couldn’t help but laugh at herself, because if she hadn’t been going back and forth with Xenon about accepting the gift, she wouldn’t have lost track of time in the first place.
Dr. Ford! New car? Looks amazing, must’ve cost a fortune.”
A colleague she ran into looked at her with obvious envy as she stepped out of the vehicle. Elina pressed her lips together, unsure how to explain. “Just a car a friend wasn’t using.”
Jnfortunately, those words were overheard by someone who stepped onto the elevator a moment later. ack’s cold face turned toward her; his eyes bore into her, filled with anger and mockery.
Elina pretended not to see him and took a step back.
Her colleague got off on the second floor. As soon as the elevator doors closed, Jack suddenly turned and
acked her into the corner.
A friend? Since when do you have friends? Was that car from a man?” His voice was thick with irritation.
Elina frowned. She could feel his breath on her face, and it made her uncomfortable. She turned her head
way.
There are plenty of things you don’t know about me. I’m not obligated to tell you everything.”
lack felt like he’d been punched in the gut. He clenched his jaw. “Elina, unbelievable-you couldn’t wait even a day after filing for divorce to find yourself a sugar daddy?”
Elina looked up at him, her gaze sharp and unyielding. “Still better than cheating while married.”
She didn’t hold back; her words cut deep and hit Jack square in the heart.
“You’re spouting…”
Before he could finish, the elevator doors slid open.

A gasp drew both their attention. They turned and saw Elowyn, hand over her mouth, eyes wide in shock
as she stared at them.
Jack instinctively stepped away from Elina. He gave her one last look, then walked out of the elevator.
“Jack…” Elowyn’s voice was trembling, on the verge of tears. “Am I interrupting something between you
and Elina?”
Jack cleared his throat. “No. When did you get here?”
He quickly changed the subject, though guilt still clung to his tone.
Elina watched them, silently pressing the elevator button, eyes averted. But Elowyn, standing just outside, reached for the open-door button and looked at her with sadness and hurt in her eyes. She choked up as she spoke.
“Mr. Benjamin wants to see Elina. I was just about to go look for her… but since she’s already here, why no go in first and see him?”
She looked like she was about to cry at any second.
lina’s gaze darkened; her voice turned cold. “I have patients to see. I’ll visit Mr. Benjamin after my shift.”
She had no intention of staying another second around them and continued to press the elevator button.
But the doors remained open.
