Chapter 51 Guess Who’s Faking It Now

Finished

She didn’t say another word, just cried, her sobs the only expression of how much pain she was in.

Seeing this, Jack picked her up. “I’ll take you home first. Just rest and recover for now; you don’t need to come to the hospital for a while.”

“But can you handle everything on your own? You still have to take care of Jaslyn… If only your wife would stop throwing tantrums.”

Elowyn looked up at him, her eyes sparkling. Nestled in Jack’s arms, she felt utterly content-as if all the stares around them were filled with envy.

“Don’t bring her up,” Jack snapped, cutting her off with clear irritation.

Elowyn bit her lip gently and spoke in a soft voice. “Okay, Jack. I don’t want to upset you either…”

They took the elevator down together. As they passed by, two nurses who had just seen them huddled together, whispering with curled lips.

“That’s Dr. Ford’s husband, right? Oh my, why is he carrying another woman?”

“I heard that woman’s Dr. Ford’s younger sister. Apparently she’s trying to sabotage Dr. Ford’s marriage, and she even bribed Dr. Ford’s daughter.”

“That’s awful. These two really have no shame; not even trying to hide it in public?”

As they gossiped, the doctor who had just bandaged Elowyn somehow appeared behind them without a sound.

“Dr. Ford needs to hear about this.”

By lunchtime in the cafeteria, Elina had already heard the rumors-passed from mouth to mouth, that her husband was cheating.

Jenny sat across from her. When one of the nurses, looking both sympathetic and cautious, brought it up, she couldn’t help but chuckle.

“You actually believe that?” she asked.

The nurse scratched her head nervously, glancing at Elina’s expression as she replied, “I don’t want to believe it; I’m just worried Dr. Ford’s being taken advantage of. She’s such a good person.”

“She’s fine. Dr. Ford already registered-”

Before Jenny could finish her sentence, Elina placed a chicken drumstick in her bowl. “Didn’t you say you love drumsticks?”

Jenny immediately understood Elina was subtly stopping her from speaking further. She caught on quickly and said nothing more.

Nearby, some young nurses and intern doctors, curious as ever, leaned in.

“What happened with Dr. Ford?”

Jenny shook her head with a grin. “Dr. Ford’s a powerhouse. She’d never let something so minor knock her down. Isn’t she the one you all look up to?”

With the topic lightened, Elina finally felt some relief. Even hearing them discuss her to her face, she didn’t show a trace of displeasure; she simply sat there and listened.

That kind of grace and composure-especially compared to all the rumors flying around-made it clear who held the upper hand.

Regardless of what anyone thought, Jack and Elowyn had become a hot topic around the hospital.

After lunch, Elina didn’t rest; instead, she went to visit Benjamin in his hospital room.

Jack was there already, sitting with Benjamin by the window as he soaked up the sunlight. When Elina pushed the door open and saw their backs, she hesitated at the threshold. But Benjamin had already spotted her and turned toward the door.

‘Lina, you’re here. Come sit. You’ve got work this afternoon, right? Must be exhausting.”

Benjamin’s voice was warm and cheerful-slightly slurred at times, but still perfectly understandable.

It was one of the aftereffects of the stroke that had left him comatose, but compared to patients with paralysis, he was incredibly lucky.

Elina had no choice but to step inside, smiling politely. “Mr. Benjamin, how are you feeling?”

He nodded. “Much better. Dennis already told me what happened yesterday. My recovery’s been going well; it’s all thanks to you and Dennis.”

Elina went along with his words, responding as tactfully as she could. They chatted for a while before she realized that, even with the sun pouring in through the window, a chill had crept in around her.

‘I’m getting sleepy after lunch. Jack, why don’t you walk Lina to her office? You can head straight to the company afterward-no need to come back.”

There were two caregivers now, so when they were gently “shooed” out of the room, neither of them felt oo worried about the old man.

At the door, Elina turned to look through the glass, watching as Benjamin lay down before finally walking

away.
