Chapter 58 Elina’s Not Superwoman, Okay?
Finished
To Elowyn, winning Jack’s love and trust should have been enough, but the moment she saw Benjamin miling at Elina, a surge of jealousy and frustration began to swell uncontrollably in her chest. Why does Elina get everyone’s favor without lifting a finger? And that kind of favor, no matter how hard I try, has never been within my reach.
‘Don’t get upset; it’s not good for your health. Don’t you want to be discharged soon?”
Elina’s gentle voice rang out, and Benjamin responded in an even softer, more affectionate tone.
Alright, alright, I’ll listen to you. But I was just pretending earlier; you think I’d be stupid enough to ctually get mad over someone like that? Lina, ah…”
His voice faded into the distance behind them.
Even after stepping out of the room, Elowyn could still picture the smile that must have spread across Benjamin’s deeply wrinkled, aging face. What did Elina ever do to earn that old man’s affection?
Elowyn, grandpa’s getting old. His temper’s been getting stranger, too. Don’t take it to heart.”
ack’s voice suddenly broke into her thoughts, pulling her back to the present.
she forced a small smile, her eyes brimming with feigned grievance. “I know. I don’t blame Mr. Benjamin. ›r my sister. It’s my fault, I just didn’t do well enough.”
The moment Elina was mentioned, Jack’s expression darkened.
Elowyn looked up at him and asked sweetly, “Jack, if I’d been the one to marry you… would Mr. Benjamin have liked me instead?”
ack turned to glance at her; guilt slowly crept onto his face. That was enough.
Elowyn finally felt somewhat satisfied. She curled her lips into a smile. “I’m just teasing. I wouldn’t want to out you in a difficult position.”
Even after he saw her off and she got into the car, Jack’s mind was still filled with Elowyn’s understanding smile and Elina’s cold, indifferent face.
Why is it that Elowyn, who’s done nothing wrong, keeps apologizing over and over, while Elina gets to stay so righteous, always standing tall, looking down on me from above? The thought unsettled Jack more and more as he walked back to the hospital room.
He was carrying a storm of frustration, determined to confront Elina and finally get some answers.
But when he entered the room, only Benjamin remained, glaring at him with obvious displeasure.
“I don’t know what’s so great about that girl; how long did it take to drop her off? I was trying to help you keep Lina around, and you couldn’t even be bothered to come back in time.”
Benjamin let out a sigh, his voice heavy with disappointment.

Jack frowned. “It’s not like I even wanted to see her.”

“Is that the truth, or are you just pretending? You know the answer better than anyone. A home without a woman in it, can it even be called a home? Jack, what’s wrong with you lately? Don’t forget, you two still have a five-year-old daughter.”
Benjamin’s heartfelt lecture failed to move him in the slightest.
“You don’t have to worry about all that. I know what I’m doing.”
“No, you don’t!” Benjamin’s anger finally erupted, and he started coughing violently, his face turning red.
Jack rushed forward to pat his back.
Benjamin let out a weary sigh. “You can’t even do something as simple as patting my back properly. Without Lina, what else do you think you’re capable of doing?”
“Aren’t you giving her too much credit?” Jack couldn’t help but push back. “She’s just an ordinary person. Anything Elina can do, anyone else could do too.”
