The Kid's New Mommy Wish: Daddy Said Yes novel Chapter 60

Chapter 60 You’re Still Standing There?

Jack frowned. “Where are you? I’ll come right away. Stay somewhere safe, don’t move.”

“I’m just at…

Before she could finish, a patient was escorted into the room by a nurse.

Both of them wore urgent expressions.

“Dr. Ford, there you are, please take a look at this patient.”

The nurse helped the man into a chair and handed Elina the scans.

Elina lowered her head and studied the images carefully; her brows furrowed.

“How long has the headache been going on?”

Finished

The patient was extremely weak, leaning against the nurse for support-he didn’t have the strength to

answer.

The nurse quickly filled in. “It’s been three days. He’s from Room 708 in Building 3. Dr. Lewis did his surgery, but she’s been out sick lately, and there was a delay in the handoff. He couldn’t find a doctor and held on as long as he could.”

Elina set the scan aside and picked up her stethoscope, placing it gently on the patient’s chest.

Jack, having finished his call, stood in the doorway and watched. Her profile-focused, concerned-etched itself into his mind.

“Hold your breath for a moment.”

The patient did as instructed, but couldn’t last long.

Elina responded quickly. “Schedule a brain and chest computed tomography scan immediately. Have Dennis prepare the operating room, just in case.”

The nurse nodded. “Is it serious, Dr. Ford? Should we call Dr. Lewis to ask about the case?”

“I’ll handle the contact on my end. You stay with the patient and get those scans done. Also, call his family, have them come to the hospital right away.”

“He doesn’t have any family. He’s on his own.”

Elina froze for a moment while entering the scan orders, then looked up at the man, he didn’t appear to be more than forty.

“Get the tests and treatment started. I still have some spots left in my quota this month, put the charges on hold for now. He can pay once he’s recovered.”

The nurse’s eyes welled up. “Dr. Ford, you’re amazing. I knew bringing him to you was the right call.”

Her voice trembled with emotion.

Even though the patient looked barely conscious, two silent tears slid down his cheeks.

Elina said nothing more. “Go get the tests. Update me with the results immediately.”

“Understood.”

The nurse guided the patient out of the room without wasting a second.

Finished

Elina called Lewis to confirm the patient’s medical history. Once the chaos settled, she looked up to find Jack still standing at the door.

“Something else?” she asked, as if the earlier conversation had been completely erased. Frowning, she added, “If this isn’t important, then you can leave.”

Jack opened his mouth, but before he could speak, an elderly woman with snow-white hair came rushing in, eyes red and calling out through tears.

“Dr., Ford, thank you, thank you so much! If it weren’t for you, my daughter wouldn’t be alive right now!”

As she spoke, the woman dropped to her knees, but Elina rushed forward and caught her by the arm.

“Madam Lyla, please don’t do this. I’m a doctor, helping people is my job. You don’t have to thank me like this.”

Elina’s brows had remained tightly drawn all day. She held onto Lyla’s hand, afraid to let go.

“No, you’re different. You’re young, capable, and kind. We just finished paying off the medical bills, I came here just to thank you. These are fruits from our orchard; please, take them…”

Lyla was overwhelmed with emotion, trying to shove a large bag into Elina’s arms.

Elina winced and looked at her, exasperated. “No, Madam Lyla, I can’t accept your things, I won’t. You’ve already paid your bill. That’s more than enough.”

Outside the door, Jack stood watching the whole scene unfold. His heart was suddenly racing.

Elina’s hair had become a bit tousled from struggling to refuse the gift; her expression was caught somewhere between embarrassment and helplessness.

And yet, that version of her, flustered, tired and imprinted itself so deeply into Jack’s memory.
