Chapter 62 Say That Again, I Dare You

“You schemed your way into marrying me, into the Mansor family, now you’re pulling this stunt over your own dirty fantasies. What the heck do you really want?” Jack snapped, his voice rising in anger.
Elina gave him a once-over, then suddenly let out a short laugh. “Mr. Mansor, don’t you realize how much you’re exposing yourself right now? I never once said why I wanted the divorce, but clearly you have a reason in mind. And that reason is that you’re an emotional child who can’t handle intimacy. You get it, but you refuse to face it.”
Her voice was calm and steady, as if she were talking about someone who had nothing to do with her.
Jack stared at her, a wave of helplessness washing over him.
He didn’t even care what Elina was accusing him of anymore; all he could hear, over and over again, was one word-divorce.
How could we possibly divorce? He hadn’t even dared say it aloud, yet Elina had the nerve to say it so easily.
Elina shoved him hard. “Let go! You’re hurting me!”
His grip tightened around her arm, making her wince.
Jack let out a bitter laugh, burning with rage. “You’re doing this because of Xenon. Elina, after all these years, what have you taken me for?”
Once his fury had been ignited, it wasn’t easy to snuff it out.
Elina froze for a second, she hadn’t expected Jack to bring up Xenon, let alone twist things this way.
“What, nothing to say now? Because I’m right? You’d toss aside your own child just for another man. You’re unbelievable.”
“Shut up,” Elina said coldly, her expression hardening, “Don’t twist things. I don’t owe you an explanation, but I won’t let you insult me, either.”
She clenched her jaw and shoved him with all the strength she had; finally, she broke free of his grip.
“You-”
Before he could finish, Jaslyn suddenly darted in between them, shielding Jack with her tiny body.
She looked up, her little face filled with fury.
“Don’t hit daddy! Don’t yell at him either! This is all your fault. You cheated, and that’s why you abandoned me and daddy. I hate you!”
Jaslyn’s voice rang out, cutting through the night. The entire area fell silent.
Elina looked at her, eyebrows drawing together; for once, her face showed more than just sarcasm.
“Why do you keep defending daddy? And blaming Aunt Elowyn? You’re a bad mom! I don’t ever want you

to be my mom again!”
Tears streamed down Jaslyn’s checks as she shouted.
Elina froze for a second. A flash of pain crossed her eyes, but she quickly looked away.
“Fine. I don’t particularly want to be your mom either.”

With that, she climbed into her car and locked the doors in one swift, decisive motion-leaving Jack no time to react.
Elowyn ran over, banging on the window as she cried, “Elina, please don’t be mad at me! If you’re divorcing Jack because of me, I’ll leave! Just like I did six years ago. I won’t bother your lives again. I’ll even make sure Jaslyn keeps being your daughter.”
She sobbed, begging Elina to come out.
But Elina started the car and tapped the horn; the sudden blast startled Elowyn so much she stumbled and fell to the ground.
As the car sped away, Jack finally snapped out of his daze and rushed to help Elowyn up.
Jaslyn chased after the car for a few steps, crying loudly. Why did Mommy just leave us again? Aunt Elowyn had promised, if I cried and told mommy what I did wrong, mommy and daddy would stop fighting. But why did she still leave, just like before?
Elowyn scooped her up, voice trembling. “You did great, Jaslyn. You really did.”
Jaslyn clung to her, sobbing. “Why did Mommy still leave?”
