Chapter 66 Grandpa’s Got Your Phone
After all, it was a pretty lucrative side gig.

But the director said, “I discussed this with Dennis first, he said he had no objections. Ultimately, we still have to follow Mansor Group’s requirements.”
Elina listened to what should’ve been a perfectly reasonable explanation, but to her, every word felt like a red flag.
Dennis might not be upset with her over this, but he couldn’t stop others from gossiping.
Lately, the rumors about her divorce had been spreading like wildfire in the hospital. If she stepped in to take over Dennis’ role now, it would only stir up even more trouble-things she probably hadn’t even imagined yet.
“You don’t have to feel pressured; it’s totally fine if you don’t want to do it, the director said when she stayed silent for too long. “I won’t push you. The hospital is pursuing other sources of investment too, it’s not a big deal.”
The only downside was that it would take more time.
Even if the director hadn’t said that part out loud, Elina knew exactly what he meant.
She thought for a moment, then shook her head. “It’s not pressure, I just want to help you and the hospital however I can.”
As for those things she was worried about, if they happened, so be it.
Elina had never cared about rumors and gossip anyway.
The director’s eyes lit up. “Really? That’s great! I’ll get back to Mansor Group as soon as I can, things might get a little busier for you.”
His smile was contagious; Elina found herself smiling too. “All right.”
After so many years working at the hospital, the director had never once asked her to do anything unreasonable.
This was just a minor task as a medical consultant-nothing worth agonizing over.
Meanwhile, at Mansor Group, Howard passed the hospital’s response along to Jack.
For the first time in days, the frosty expression on Jack’s face softened; the chill in his eyes gave way to something warmer.
“Have the funds transferred from my personal account. Once the research shows results, I’ll talk to the
shareholders about the investment.”
The decision to invest had been entirely Jack’s own.
He just hadn’t allowed Howard to share that with the hospital director-because he didn’t want Elina to

know.
Howard acknowledged the order, confirmed the afternoon schedule, and left.
The office fell silent again. Jack stared at his phone. He hesitated; he hadn’t made up his mind yet, but his hand moved on its own, picking up the phone and pulling up Elina’s number. Strange. Just thinking about her gives me a headache, and yet, I keep thinking about her. Reaching out to the city hospital like this, wasn’t it just a way to get Elina to contact me first?
Whether she accepted or refused, she’d have to call him.
But now it was already noon. If he did the math, Elina should’ve heard the news at least three hours ago.
Why hadn’t she called yet? As he was thinking, the phone suddenly vibrated.
The name flashing on the screen made Jack’s expression shift instantly.
Elina was calling.
He swiped to answer, but the voice on the other end wasn’t hers
“Jack. I’m getting discharged today, why haven’t you come to pick me up yet?”
It was Benjamin, his tone edged with playful complaint.
Jack paused for a beat, glanced at the time, then said. “I already asked Howard to arrange it. Someone will be there in ten minutes to bring you home.”
Benjamin clicked his tongue. “I thought you’d come in person. Lina even came on her day off to keep me company, why don’t you bring Jaslyn along too?”
The conspiratorial tone in his voice tipped Jack off.
He realized immediately how Benjamin had gotten hold of Elina’s phone.
Benjamin must’ve swiped it when she wasn’t looking. Elina never set a passcode on her phone, so it was easy for him to unlock it and make the call.
Jack also understood what the old man was getting at.
Elina was clearly helping prepare for Benjamin’s discharge; the old man wanted Jack to bring Jaslyn over, probably to orchestrate a face-to-face encounter.
“I’m not coming,” Jack said calmly, his voice turning cool. “I’ve got an important meeting today. I need to prep in advance.”
