Chapter 68 You Gonna Say Something?

Mansor Group’s medical division had recently brought in a wave of new hires; the original staff had been reassigned to other branches.

Elina now spent three days a week at Mansor Group, training the new employees.

Luckily, her working hours were from two to six in the afternoon, almost entirely staggered from Jack’s.

Still, since they were both at Mansor Group, even with Elina going out of her way to avoid him, she would occasionally catch a glimpse of him.

Every time that happened, her heart would start to race.

Not because of some lingering feelings, those didn’t exist, but because she worried Jack might see her and stir up some unnecessary drama.

On Wednesday, Elina arrived at Mansor Group at exactly two o’clock.

The medical department was on the seventh floor. Just as she stepped into the elevator, Taylor from the medical team squeezed in before the doors could close, holding a folder.

“Dr. Ford, could you take a look at this list of emergency medications, let me know if we need to add anything?”

Elina lowered her head to review it as a few more people entered the elevator.

She pointed out several missing medications. “There are also a few pieces of emergency equipment I’ve already sent to your email. Take a look when you get a chance.”

“Got it,” Taylor said, jotting down the meds on the document.

“Elina?” A voice suddenly broke the quiet in the elevator. “What are you doing here?”

Elowyn’s surprised gaze landed on Elina, then she moved a little closer to Jack.

She asked, deliberately loud, “Did you come to see Jack?”

At that, Elina frowned but didn’t look up right away, then Elowyn continued.

“So you finally decided to come home. Without you around, Jaslyn’s been late to school every day. The nanny doesn’t dare discipline her.”

After speaking, Elowyn turned to look at Jack.

“I don’t have the heart to scold her either; she’s just too adorable.”

Her voice had a flirty lilt to it, as though she were teasing Jack.

Besides the three of them, there were two or three other Mansor Group employees in the elevator, heads. down, silent as statues.

Elina lifted her gaze, gave the two a once-over, and found the whole thing laughable.

“Elina, why aren’t you saying anything? Is it because there are employees around, and it’s awkward to talk about going home? But you’ve been so stubborn about staying away that Jack hasn’t even had a chance to talk to you about Jaslyn, he’s had to come to me instead. I’m just Aunt Elowyn to Jaslyn’s. No matter how much she likes me, I can’t take the place of you,”

Today, Elowyn wore a sleek black business outfit; her long legs wrapped in sheer black stockings, her heels clicking sharply against the elevator floor. She looked effortlessly poised.

Her hand rose to her mouth in a dainty laugh, exuding confidence and charm,

Her fox-like eyes scanned Elina with open contempt and ridicule.

She claimed to be insignificant, but her tone flaunted how both Jaslyn and Jack seemed to rely on her now.

But Elina couldn’t care less.

All she noticed was that Elowyn clearly held a prominent place at Jack’s side.

Even with other employees present, who could witness her nasty tone, Elowyn didn’t bother hiding her sharp gaze.

Of course she didn’t. With Jack backing her, even if her position was all title and no substance, she could practically do whatever she wanted.

ack really did spoil her.

Elina couldn’t help remembering how Jack had never allowed her to set foot in his company.

With that, she shot Elowyn a cool glance, then turned her eyes back to the elevator doors without saying a word.

The air inside the elevator, already quiet, suddenly turned suffocating.

Everyone had expected Elina to snap back in anger, but instead, she said nothing at all.

Elowyn froze; a flush crept up her neck and spread to her cheeks.

Her face went red, then pale; it was as if everything she’d said had bounced off a wall of cotton, soft but unyielding, leaving her looking foolish.

Someone let out a quiet laugh.

The employees who had been silently avoiding eye contact now started fidgeting, turning their heads. pretending to cough-anything to diffuse the awkwardness thick in the air.

Elowyn bit her lip, her eyes reddening as she turned to Jack.

But he didn’t even glance her way-just stood there on the right, silent as ever.

The elevator was maddeningly steady, its pace slow. A few people got on and off, but it still hadn’t reached the seventh floor after nearly a full minute.
