“Let go!” she yelled, struggling furiously.

Jack snapped out of it like he’d just come to his senses. When he saw the red finger marks on her cheek, he immediately released his grip. Elina rubbed her face like someone who had just survived a disaster, gasping for breath. She let out a cold snort. “What’s the difference between registering for divorce and being officially divorced? Do you really think this thirty-day cooling-off period is going to change anything?”

She lifted her gaze, staring straight into Jack’s eyes. Her eyes were slightly red from the pain. “If I were you, I’d go comfort Elowyn right now, make sure she’s ready to take care of Jaslyn properly.”

Her voice trembled slightly; the more she said, the more Jack’s heart twisted.

Now he saw it clearly, this was the real Elina standing in front of him. The one who said she still loved him over the phone had been a lie.

Jack was furious. He grabbed her arm tightly. “You lied to me?”

The sudden accusation caught Elina completely off guard.

Without warning, he yanked her forward and dragged her out of the room.

The employees gathered outside quickly scattered when they heard footsteps approaching from inside.

Elina saw them and immediately cried out, “Help me!”

But not a single person responded to her call for help.

Jack’s strides were fast and forceful, clearly driven by rage.

But Elina was clear-headed.

She’d lived with him for six years; of course she knew exactly what he was capable of in a state like this.

She struggled with everything she had. Before she became meat on Jack’s chopping block, she refused to give up any chance of escaping.

“Don’t move, unless you want to make headlines at Mansor Group,” he growled.

As soon as they entered the elevator, Jack wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her into his chest, his voice a low, animalistic snarl.

His words hit her like a loaded gun pressed to her temple, ready to go off at the slightest resistance, leaving her without a trace.

Elina looked up and met his cold, furious eyes; beneath that fury, she glimpsed something unexpected, disappointment.

This wasn’t just rage.

She froze.

“Jack, what do you even want?” Elina took a deep breath, finally calming down. “You want to be with Elowyn, our divorce gave her the space she needed, didn’t it? Jaslyn likes her. And for the sake of your perfect little family, I even gave up custody. What more do you want from me?”

In these twenty days, neither short nor long, it had always been Jack clinging to her.

The phone calls, the unannounced visits, and this hospital partnership deal that somehow ended up in her hands, every little detail pointed to one thing, Jack wasn’t willing to let her go.

But if this kept up, Elina’s goals might never come to pass.

The more silent she grew, the more her thoughts ran wild.

The idea that she might lose her chance to study abroad filled her with panic.

Clenching her jaw, she turned back to glare at Jack, refusing to be intimidated by the ice in his gaze.

Before she could say a word, the elevator dinged and the doors slid open. Jack dragged her out.

She stumbled, nearly falling, and he caught her by the waist.

This was the executive floor-where Jack’s office and the secretarial department were located.

In all the years they’d been married, he had never allowed her to visit him at work, much less brought her here.

This was her first time seeing Jack’s office.
