Chapter 74 You Want a Show, Jack?

It was as if everything unfolding in front of them was Elina’s disgrace alone-as if Jack had nothing to do with it.

“Howard.”

Jack’s cold voice rang out from the office, filled with warning. Having been by his side for years, Howard knew exactly what that tone meant.

He moved quickly to close the door, but Elowyn was faster; she pressed herself against the doorway to block it.

‘Jack, should I call security?”

She looked at him, hoping for an explanation-if he said it was Elina who made the move, that she seduced him, Elowyn would’ve believed him.

But Jack didn’t spare her a single glance; his eyes stayed fixed on Elina, who was clearly resisting him.

‘You satisfied now?”

Elina bit her lip hard, saying nothing.

Still not willing to give up, Elowyn tried to push further inside. “If word about this gets out, it’ll damage your reputation, Jack.”

Howard grabbed her arm and yanked her out before slamming the door shut.

His expression darkened. “Ms. Elowyn, you’re overthinking it. Whatever Mr. Mansor does with his wife in he office is their personal business. They’re legally married, it won’t harm his reputation.”

Howard could already feel it, Jack was radiating a quiet, smoldering rage.

Elowyn snapped, “What does this have to do with you? Move!”

He kept his voice steady. “Mr. Mansor hasn’t said anything. If you keep pushing like this, Ms. Elowyn, he’s the one you’ll be upsetting.”

That made her hesitate; she didn’t want to risk provoking Jack.

But the image she had just seen was burned into her mind. Elowyn clenched her teeth and stood in place, mulling it over for a long while before finally brushing past Howard.

Her tone shifted completely; she was no longer frantic. She gave him a measured look. “You’re Jack’s assistant, you should understand how much damage a hit to his reputation could cause this company.”

Howard bowed his head slightly. “That’s not something you to worry about. After all, you’re just Mr. Mansor’s secretary.”

Elowyn glared at him, seething. “So just because Elina’s here, you think you can talk down to me?”

“You’ve misunderstood, Ms. Elowyn. I’m Mr. Mansor’s assistant, everything I do is for his sake.”

There was a faint smile on Howard’s lips as he spoke.

He used her own words to shut her down, and for once, Elowyn was speechless. Furious, she turned and stormed off.

Inside the office, the room was finally quiet again.

Elina stared coldly at Jack. “Enough of the act. Can you get off me now?”

Before he could answer, she shoved him away with all her strength.

“Isn’t this what you wanted?” Jack frowned, a trace of restrained frustration in his eyes.

“I never said that,” Elina snapped. “You dragged me up here and then pretended to get intimate with me in front of Elowyn, just to see how much she still cares about you, right?”

Her words were like bullets, each one hitting Jack square in the chest.

His brows furrowed deeper. “Do you even hear yourself right now?”

Hadn’t she always accused me and Elowyn of being involved? So now that I am finally willing to play along with a scene of affection, why is Elina the one backing away? He stared at her, unmoving.

Elina paused, then suddenly let out a cold laugh. “I get it. I’m just a prop, a piece in your little performance.”

Jack’s breath caught in his throat; his eyes filled with confusion.

All he’d wanted was to make things up to Elowyn; what he’d done just now should’ve made his stance clear to Elina.

But she still said things like this.

“What do you want from me? Just say it. There’s no need for this performance,” Jack said, brows still knitted together.

“Oh, so now I’m the one performing?” Elina shot him an impatient look. “You didn’t say a word when we got in here, only when Elowyn showed up did you start acting close.”

She didn’t want to keep this going any longer.

She straightened her clothes, her gaze growing distant and contemptuous.

“Forget it. I don’t want to argue anymore. Whatever goes on between you two has nothing to do with me. I just ask one thing-don’t show up in front of me on purpose. I’ll finish the work I’m responsible for at Mansor Group. But outside of that, stay far away from me.”
