Elina quickly covered the pinhole. “Sorry, I didn’t see it.”

“What kind of trouble are you in?” Benjamin asked gently. “Tell me, while I’m still around to help, you better make use me. That way, you’ll remember me later on.”

He looked at her intently.

Elina crouched down and pressed her lips together. “Grandpa, there’s something I do need your help with.”

“Just say it,” Benjamin chuckled. “No need to be so polite with me.”

“Jack invested in a hospital project, but after we had a fight…”

Before she could finish, Benjamin frowned. “He pulled out?”

Elina nodded. She heard him ask again, “Is the project tied to you somehow?”

“Yes,” she answered honestly.

“So the training partnership with the medical department, was that actually connected to this project too?”

Benjamin’s expression darkened immediately.

Elina grew uneasy, debating whether she should tell the full truth. If this whole thing really upset Jack, there’s no telling what else he might do to retaliate.

Seeing her hesitate in silence, Benjamin slammed the armrest of his wheelchair in frustration.

“Don’t worry. I’ll handle this. That brat Jack actually dared to use company funds to mess with you.”

Elina didn’t know how Mansor Group operated, nor did she understand anything about the business world.

But Benjamin’s expression made it clear-Jack had seriously crossed a line,

Not wanting to make things worse, Elina quickly said, “Grandpa, maybe I’m overthinking it. Let me talk to him myself. You should focus on resting; don’t tire yourself out.”

Benjamin looked at her and said, “You’re the one who shouldn’t be worn out. Leave this to me.”

With that, he pulled out his phone; his aged fingers tapped the screen slowly, then he dialed Jack’s

number.

“Come to the hospital right now. I need to talk to you.”

The results of his follow-up exam wouldn’t be ready for at least another two hours. Elina had planned to check on the patients in the meantime, but now she had no choice but to stay and wait for Jack with the old man.

Half an hour later, Jack arrived in a rush.

The moment he saw Benjamin, he asked, “Did the report come back with something wrong?”

Elina stood off to the side. Her eyes met Jack’s, and an awkward tension filled the space between them.

She could already imagine the scolding Benjamin was about to give him; the tension in the room was palpable.

Once they were alone, Jack would surely pin all of this on her.

But there was no turning back now.

“What have you been working on lately?” Benjamin asked sternly. “I haven’t heard a word from you in ages. Tell me now, how many projects are you currently handling, and what are they?”

His tone was firm; his gaze even more so-sharp, unyielding.

Jack paused slightly. “That’s why you asked me to come here?”

“Why else? Do I have to be on my deathbed to summon you?”

Benjamin’s temper caught Jack off guard. Just this morning, when he’d called from the old house, everything had seemed fine.

Confused, Jack glanced at Elina.

Elina was about to speak when Benjamin snapped, “I’m talking to you. What are you looking at Lina for? Don’t think she’s going to cover for you!”

Jack pressed his lips together and played along. “That’s not what I meant. If you want to see the project files, you can come to the office. Or I can bring copies back to the house later. We’re at the hospital, it’s not so easy to explain everything right now.”

“Is it hard to explain, or do you just not want to tell me?” Benjamin snorted. “You’re the successor I personally groomed, and now you expect me to believe there’s something you can’t explain in a few sentences?”

The implication in his words made Jack’s face harden.

“If there’s something you want to know, just ask me directly.”

“Fine,” Benjamin said, gripping Elina’s hand while shooting Jack a cold look. “Then let me be clear. This hospital partnership, did the board approve it?”
