Jenny was about to speak when a cold, sharp voice rang out behind them.

“So this was your goal all along?”

Jack’s voice was ice as he stared Elina down. She frowned, about to respond, when Jenny instinctively stepped in front of her and pulled out her phone.

“Mr. Mansor, what are you trying to do?”

Before the words had even fully landed, Elina gently patted her shoulder. “It’s fine. Go ahead with your shift, I’ll handle this.”

Jack’s presence was always trouble, but she didn’t want the people around her getting dragged into it.

Jenny, clearly sensing something wasn’t right, asked worriedly, “Want me to stay with you? Or I can call security.”

But some things were best kept private.

Elina shook her head. “No need.”

Jenny cast a suspicious glance at Jack. “Alright, but if anything happens, just call me.”

Elina gave her a grateful look.

Once Jenny left, Elina turned back to face Jack.

‘You seemed to be having quite the chat with her just now. But the second I show up, you send her away?” Jack sneered. “Even you know how shameful this is.”

Elina pressed her lips together. Her tone was calm but firm. “I just didn’t want Grandpa’becoming a topic of gossip.”

‘What does this have to do with Grandpa? Elina, you always know how to twist your words to make yourself look noble.”

‘I don’t need to twist anything,” she said, her voice cooling. “What do you want?”

Jack’s eyes burned with fury.

‘You want a divorce that badly? You really think I’m just going to give it to you?”

Elina paused, then replied softly, “Whether you give it to me or not, the outcome will be the same. Why cling to something that’s already over? From the moment I decided to divorce you, I never intended to back down. Jack, if you still have even a shred of appreciation for how I upheld the role of your wife all these years, let me go.”

Her voice was as gentle as a sigh, but to Jack, every word cut like a blade.

For a long moment, his brows knotted tightly. “Then wait and see if I let you go.”

His eyes had gone cold; his whole demeanor hardened.

This time, it was his turn to walk away.

Elina froze for a second, then caught up to him. “What exactly do you want from me? I can’t even walk away and start over?”

She had already made so many compromises. Why is he still set on going against me?

“Let go.” Jack didn’t bother explaining.

In a moment of panic, Elina grabbed his arm. “Not until you give me a straight answer!”

Jack shook her off. “I’ve said everything I wanted to say. As for the rest, you’ll find out when the time comes.”

Clearly, he was determined to drag this out.

Elina dropped her arms and stood there in a daze, staring at his retreating back. Her brows were tightly furrowed, impossible to relax. What is he even trying to do?

Her hands clenched into fists at her sides; blood rushed hot through her veins. I can’t keep placing my hopes on Jack, not even for the divorce.

Snapping out of her thoughts, Elina let out a quiet sigh.

She no longer knew what to do.

After Jack finally left, Elina went to check on Benjamin again before heading out of the hospital.

She had just stepped through the front doors when a voice pulled her out of her spiral.

“Lina!”

A familiar voice rang out beside her.

Elina turned her head, eyes lighting up.

“Fraser? When did you get back?”

Fraser stood tall and straight, just a few years older than Elina. With his sunny, handsome features, he looked more like a freshly graduated college student than anything else.

There was an affectionate smile on his face as he walked toward her and ruffled the top of her head in a way that spoke of long familiarity.

“Landed this morning. Heard you were at the hospital, so I came straight here.

“It’s been a while, Lina. You’ve gotten even prettier.”

His warm tone chased away the dark clouds that had been pressing on Elina’s chest.
