The Love I Begged For Was Never Real novel Chapter 310

By now, Gideon had managed to sit up, though the effort clearly took a toll on him.

After nearly half an hour of examinations, the lead surgeon finally lowered his stethoscope and let out a long sigh of relief.

"Mr. Hayes, your vitals have completely stabilized."

The doctor wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and bowed respectfully to Gideon.

"The surgery was a complete success, and the internal bleeding has been fully stopped. However, the fractures and soft tissue damage to your back are extremely severe. You must avoid any strenuous activity and remain on strict bed rest for the next month."

Gideon leaned back against the snow-white pillows, his voice still hoarse.

"Got it. Get out."

"Yes, Mr. Hayes. Please rest well."

"Did you hear that, Gideon! The doctor said you're going to be fine!" Giselle threw herself back at the bedside, affectionately hugging his arm.

A look of helpless indulgence crossed Gideon's pale face. He allowed Giselle to cling tightly to his arm as his deep gaze drifted past the bed, landing on Nora standing in the corner.

Their eyes met briefly across the room.

Nora instinctively straightened her posture. Her lips parted, just about to ask how he was feeling.

Giselle acutely caught the shift in Gideon's focus. Following his gaze, she turned around and immediately spotted Nora, who was still lingering in the corner.

She stood up, pointed directly at the pale-faced, bloodshot-eyed Nora, and wailed her accusations to the man sitting in the bed:

Gideon struggled slightly to lift his uninjured left arm, his long fingers gesturing in the air for Giselle to come closer.

"It's not Nora's fault. It was a mechanical failure at the factory, nobody could have predicted it. I'm fine now, aren't I? Stop crying."

Standing in the corner, Nora flinched in blatant shock at the words "It's not Nora's fault."

"I don't want to hear it! I don't want to hear it!"

Realizing that Gideon was actually defending Nora even at a time like this, Giselle's possessiveness and sense of grievance exploded.

She threw herself onto Gideon's chest, wrapping her arms tightly around his waist, crying even louder than before. Massive tears soaked into the fabric of his hospital gown.

"Gideon! You're still protecting her! You almost lost your life because of her, and the first thing you do when you wake up is defend her!"
