"You're forcing an unrelated incident onto the deceased."
The officer pressed on, taking another step forward. "You harbored long-term jealousy over the preferential treatment the deceased received in the Hayes family, and you were envious of the close relationship between the deceased and Mr. Gideon Hayes. This chronic psychological imbalance, combined with your fabricated poisoning incident, drove you to develop a severe desire for revenge."
Nora shook her head. Her bangs, soaked in cold sweat, clung to her pale cheeks, but her tone remained resolute.
"I didn't fabricate anything. That dinner was a trap she set."
The officer flipped a page in his file. "Dozens of guests at the scene, including members of the Hayes and Pierce families, all knew about the long-standing conflict between you and Giselle Hayes."
"You believed Giselle stole your husband's attention. At last night's banquet, your jealousy and resentment peaked, so you used a text message to lure the deceased to the blind spot on the rooftop. During the argument, you pushed her off the building."
"I had no reason to kill her."
Nora's voice was hoarse and tight. "I had already decided to ask for a divorce after the banquet ended. I planned to leave the Hayes family. I didn't care at all about how glamorous she was in this social circle. I just wanted to cut ties with her."
Hearing the word "divorce," the two officers exchanged a look.
"Your husband, Mr. Hayes, explicitly stated in his report last night that you two had never discussed any substantive topics regarding divorce. Mr. Hayes believes you value your status as Mrs. Hayes deeply and would never willingly give it up."
The officer looked at Nora, ruthlessly breaking through her defenses. "Mr. Hayes's testimony indicates that you have constantly targeted Giselle to secure your position."
Nora's heart sank heavily.
Gideon had denied the divorce.
He had completely overthrown her claims to the police, thoroughly painting her as a crazed, jealous woman who would go to any lengths to keep her position as Mrs. Hayes.
The high-intensity interrogation continued.
The interrogating officers rotated out in shifts.
Two newly dispatched officers walked into the interrogation room and pulled out chairs to sit down.
