Hearing the commotion, several maids responsible for the manor's daily upkeep hurried out from the back hallways. Seeing Gideon's ghostly, tormented state, their faces filled with dread.
An older maid gathered her courage and stepped forward. Anxiously wringing the hem of her apron, she spoke, her voice trembling with unmistakable pleading.
"Sir, the storm outside is too vicious. The forecast warned of a severe downpour, and the main roads in the city are already flooding."
Looking at Gideon's bloodless profile, she bravely tried to reason with him.
"You haven't rested properly in days, and your health has been so poor. It's incredibly dangerous for you to drive out there alone right now. If you're missing Miss Giselle, we can prepare the car first thing tomorrow morning and go to the cemetery with you, okay?"
Gideon stopped in his tracks. Standing completely still, he slowly shook his head.
"It can't wait until tomorrow."
"Today is the anniversary of the day I brought Giselle home."
Exactly twenty years ago today, he had taken Giselle's hand and walked her out of St. Jude's Children's Home.
From that day forward, Giselle was no longer an orphan starving for her next meal. She had a family, and she had a room to call her own.
Whenever it thundered and rained at night, she would run into his room clutching her pillow, diving into his arms, crying that she was terrified of the storm and needed her brother to protect her.
That was the day he pulled her out of the mud. That was the day he promised to protect her for the rest of her life.
"She's out there all alone."
Gideon's eyes shimmered with unshed tears, his voice shaking violently.
"It's pouring so hard, and it's so dark. She's going to be terrified. She's been terrified of the thunder and the dark ever since she was a little girl."
Giselle was lying all alone under a freezing headstone on the side of a mountain. There were no houses, no lights, just the howling storm and endless blackness.
She had always hated the rain. She was always afraid of the dark. In weather this brutal, left entirely alone, she would definitely be crying her eyes out. She would definitely be screaming for her brother to come keep her company.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Love I Begged For Was Never Real
Storyline is good..but author is wasting time on character's thoughts.why r u streching chapters it's really really boring and annoying.conversation between them childish.she is only saying him get out n what right do u have ..not telling him what he did to her not questioning him..demanding answer. And what happened to him why sudden change of heart care to explain author.....
For the past few chapters either she is sick or he is. It is slightly boring. Author pls let them talk about the issues , she is not at all scolding him.. every scoldings are playing in her mind only. We want some talk between them....
I am also thinking the same....
Has he mistaken Nora as Giselle?...
What happened to him🤔 did he forget everything?...
Hey can u also upload the book " woke up married to my cheating ex"....
Does he know the orphan girl is actually Nora?...
So is he trying to justify everything? At wat rite??? Wer were he wen she needed him the most.......
Haha finally going to see redemption...
I don’t think reborn will happen in this novel. It will be full of her blood only. Actually The title should be changed to only Nora’s suffering instead the love I begged was never real....
