The Love I Begged For Was Never Real novel Chapter 423

Listening to Franklin's description, Nora's heart lurched violently. Beneath the thick bandages, her fingers involuntarily curled, shooting a wave of piercing agony through her hands.

Franklin reached up to wipe away the tears sliding down his aged face.

"Mrs. Hayes, please go knock on that door. Stop him from taking more pills. Just go talk to him—even if you have to provoke him, even if you just start a fight with him!"

His tone grew increasingly urgent, his hands almost reaching out to tug at her sleeve. "Make him angry, let him vent all that darkness inside him. Give him the strength to hate you! Letting him stay awake through sheer hatred is better than watching him live like a walking corpse!

"Please go see him. If this continues, he's actually going to die!"

Every word Franklin spoke was a desperate plea for her to act as the target to stimulate Gideon's fractured nerves.

As long as Gideon could survive—even if it meant leaning on his hatred for Nora to sustain his life—it was better than this silent, steady self-destruction.

Nora leaned back against the hard wall, listening to these desperate entreaties.

She understood exactly what he meant. Gideon had crashed his car, gotten hurt, swallowed a lethal amount of pills, and was teetering on the edge of death.

Franklin wanted her to play the villain, to use that hatred to shock him back into feeling pain.

The moment she appeared before him, Gideon would be reminded of Giselle's death, and an endless wrath would explode out of him.

That wrath could jolt his senses, waking him from this numb, zombie-like state.

Nora lowered her head, her gaze falling upon her heavily bandaged hands.

Go stop him?

What could she possibly use to stop him?

She didn't even have the strength to pull herself up from this freezing floor.

The severe weakness brought on by her pregnancy had drained every last drop of energy in her body.
