"You're too polite, Mr. Hayes. I was more than happy to accompany Giselle. I'll go put these in the car now."
After warning Nathan, Gideon's gaze finally landed on Nora.
Nora stood a few steps away, wearing cheap clothes, holding a rough paper bag, her face pale. Her lips were pressed tightly together, and a sense of stubborn endurance shone in her eyes. It formed an incredibly stark contrast to the pampered Giselle leaning against his chest.
Gideon's gaze lingered on her bloodless face for a few seconds.
In a city this massive, how could they possibly run into each other on the street by pure coincidence? She must have found out Giselle's schedule and deliberately dressed in this pathetic manner to appear here. It was nothing more than a trick to play the victim, trying to incite his pity or complain about his cruelty in front of Nathan.
This clumsy act of playing the martyr not only annoyed him but also fueled his anger over her making Giselle's eyes turn red earlier.
Gideon pulled Giselle tighter into his embrace, his tall frame completely blocking Nora's line of sight.
"How much longer are you going to keep this game up?"
His voice was icy, completely devoid of inflection.
"You sent your brother to get close to Giselle, while you stalk her from the shadows. Nora, what exactly are you trying to do to her?"
Gideon's voice dropped. "The Hayes family can't afford to lose this kind of face. Once you're done throwing your tantrum, come back. There's no need to put on this act of being wronged for outsiders to see. If you want compensation, you can tell Liam York directly."
Nora looked up, meeting his eyes full of scrutiny and disdain.
Looking into her dead, silent eyes, Gideon felt that nameless fire start to flare up again. He was used to the passionate, hopeful looks Nora always gave him. Now, this stagnant calmness filled him with an inexplicable sense of frustration.
"What you do out there is your own business. But if you use these tactics to stalk Giselle again and upset her, you'll face the consequences."
