"None of your business!"
Hit where it hurt, Nathan bristled like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. "Giselle has been in a bad mood lately and keeps having nightmares at night. So what if I use my own savings to take her out to relax! You turned the Hayes family upside down, leaving Giselle terrified every day, and you think you have the right to lecture me!"
This completely reversed accusation crashed onto Nora's heart, the dull pain spreading rapidly.
She had been slapped by Gideon, walked away with nothing, and left out on the streets, yet Nathan thought she was an embarrassment.
Giselle was just in a bad mood, and Nathan was ready to drain his entire savings to accompany her on a luxury shopping spree, turning around to blame Nora for traumatizing her.
Giselle hid behind Nathan, gently tugging at his hem.
"Nathan, please don't fight with Nora over me."
Giselle sniffled, her voice fragile. "Everything is my fault. If Nora can just stop being mad and go back to live happily with Gideon, I'll move out of the Hayes house immediately and never return."
"Giselle, don't say foolish things. The Hayes family is your home; no one can kick you out!" Nathan quickly turned back to comfort her, his tone returning to its previous tenderness.
"Are you done?"
Nora looked at Nathan, her voice so flat it lacked any inflection.
Nathan froze, his annoyance flaring at her completely unreactive attitude. "What do you mean?"
"If you're done, get out of the way. I'm in a hurry."
Nora looked at the perfectly coordinated act in front of her, a wave of physical nausea rising in her stomach. She didn't want to waste another breath and turned sideways, ready to walk around them and leave.
Right at that moment, a black Maybach glided silently down the street, parking smoothly in a spot by the curb.
