Chapter 136
–Kaia–
I stood up to leave after the Nightshade couple left the podium.
I couldn’t take my eyes off of them the whole time they were there.
The alpha and Luna were mesmerising. I couldn’t stop smiling the whole time they were on stage.
Luna Morgana looked gorgeous; if I didn’t know her age, I would have guessed.
While watching them, my throat felt parched, and I couldn’t hold it in. I asked Theo for water, and he got it.
After drinking up, I felt relaxed and took Justine and Maliya with me to eat.
I picked the store close to our booth so we wouldn’t be exhausted after walking that far.
Theo did not want to stay away from me for too long, but I asked him to stay back to watch the games; his men were competing, so it was only right that he supported them as their alpha.
Besides, it was a girl’s leisure time; he wasn’t invited.
“Did you see how mesmerising the Nightshade couple looked on stage? My world!” Justine drooled, shaking her head in disbelief. “I couldn’t take my eyes off of Luna Morgana the whole time, she’s one hot woman, you know!”
“Me neither,” I chimed in. “I thought I had gotten used to her beauty after meeting her in person, but she look more and more beautiful each time I see her”
We chatted and drooled over Luna Morgana the whole walk down the store.
“I wish a beautiful woman like her weren’t evil as everyone says. Maliya sighed, and we stopped to look at her.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“All I’m saying is that the alpha and Luna of the Nightshade pack had been outed as war mongers, and they are responsible for a lot of the evil happening in smaller packs”, Maliya explained, and I shook my head in disagreement.
“Thats a bold accusation, Maliya,” I said. “Do you have proof of what you’re saying?”
Maliya looked down and shook her head.
“I dont have anything. However, it’s a well-established rumour that has been circulating the continent for over a century.” She took a deep breath and replied gently. “There must be an atom of truth to it, isn’t it?”
“You shouldn’t be taking rumours as fact without evidence, Liya I said. “Especially unfounded ones like this. You know you can be tried for treason for attempting to defame the alpha and Luna”
Maliya flinched; she looked as if she had swallowed bones, and they were stuck in her throat.
Instantly, dead air fell upon us. Neither of us spoke again.
“I did a deep dive into the affairs of Alpha Mathew and Luna Morgana while I was investigating something.” Justine said, breaking the chill air between us. “Apparently, it was they who took over and stopped the war that happened twenty-one
years ago.
Back then, the tyrant Alpha, Tarick Moss, had kept the whole wereworld hostage with his constant wars and insatiable desire to rule the world.

He wouldn’t stop until he got what he wanted, and everyone who resisted his authority was dealt a blow. They were either murdered in cold blood or died in wars, fighting for their dignity
The war lasted for years until one day, Alpha Mathew couldn’t take it anymore. He was tired of the killings and displacement. He decided to fight the tyrant Alpha, Tarick Moss and so he did.
Alpha Mathew took it upon himself to fight him and eventually hased him out of the packs, exiling him to live in the human world.
Then, with a firm hand, he took over as the supreme Alpha, restoring peace and order in our world.
It wasn’t easy, but he did what had to be done. Wolves dont listen easily, so he didnt go easy on them either.
He established authorities, and anyone who went against them was considered a traitor and was executed immediately
This action sparked wild fear amongst the people, and they stopped challenging his authority.
Many people did not like that his authority became absolute, so they spread rumours against him, recruiting those who had been affected by the authority before.
That’s why it looked as if the people hated him, but the truth is, we are living in peace all thanks to his sacrifices.”
Theo said the same thing; hearing it from Justine again broke my heart for Alpha Mathew and Luna Morgana.
They did such a noble thing for the greater good, and this is what they get in return.
When I turned, I saw Maliya; she looked tongue-tied and still processing everything Justine said.
“I wonder who’s spreading such vile rumours about them”, I bemused. “They are such lovely people, they dont deserve this”
“I have a feeling it’s the exiled tyrant alpha and his minions who are doing this to weaken his rule”, Justine said, and I could see reason in that.
“You might be right, but they don’t seem to care, do they? I mean the Nightshades,” I said.
“Honestly, they dont give off the vibe that they care, but we can’t judge without knowing the whole truth”
“True, we shouldn’t speak on matters that we dont know the whole truth”, I agreed. “Im so hungry, let’s walk faster”
We finally stopped in front of the store, and I was quick to place my order.
When I got my order, I didnt wait to get a seat; I just started stuffing my face immediately, and before Maliya and Justine could get their orders, I finished mine.
I ordered more and ate it up again.
The sandwich and braised turkey were delicious, and I could see why I wouldn’t stop eating.
When we returned to our booth after eating, I placed a takeaway order for Theo and one extra for myself.
I saw my friends looking at me with amusement; they knew I was hungry, and I could not control how much I ate.
They weren’t judging, just watching me.
We returned to our seats in the booth, and Theo wasn’t there anymore.
I didnt bother looking for him, I assumed he was with Zane and the pack members, who were competing in the games.
“Ladies, I will need your help to uncover a lot of things”, I said, drawing their attention.

Justine and Maliya looked at me curiously. I hadn’t had the time to tell them what was going on, but after seeing how restless Theo and Zane had been lately, I think it was time I told them, and we formed a team to help.
“Have you noticed anything strange about Zane lately?” I asked, and Justine frowned.
I could tell she was thinking back. Good.
After a while, she sharply looked at me, as if she realised something
“Yes!” Justine said. “Lately, Zane has been under a lot of stress, and when I asked him about it, he said it was work-related. I didnt want to pry because the pack matter is very confidential, and I didn’t want to put him in a tight spot” She looked confused. “What’s going on, Kaia?”
“I think we are under attack.” I whispered, and their eyes widened in shock.
“Attacked? How? How is that even possible?” Maliya looked scared and confused.
“No! No!” I waved my hand. “I’m not saying we are under physical attack, but I feel like something is brewing, and it’s only a matter of time before it grows into an attack.
Just the other night. Theo felt someone was stealing money from the pack and transferring it to an anonymous account.
So, I need your help to uncover the truth before it’s escalated.”
I saw them breathing again, and I almost laughed seeing their faces.
“What do we have to do to help, Kaia?” Maliya asked.
“I don’t think here is the right place to strategise, let’s do that during the breaks”, I said, and they agreed.
After chatting for a bit, we returned our attention to the games and excitedly.
“Im going to get us drinks,” Maliya informed us and left.
“I haven’t seen Elara since we got there. What do you think she’s doing out there?” Justine pointed out, looking around.
“Nobody can tell,” I said. “She must be familiar with the city, so she’s enjoying her own company”
“Oh, she’s more than familiar,” Justine looked subconsciously disgusted. “That idiot lived here with her lover after running away with him, leaving Theo heartbroken. Of course, she knows the city”
When Justine raised her head, she saw me looking at her intently and soon realised she had said something she wasn’t
meant to say.
“What are you talking about?” I asked, furrowing my brows. “Who was her lover?”
“It was
Before Justine could tell me, someone walked up to me, smiling
