Chapter 143
I stayed in Theo’s office to work on the documents and evidence we uncovered.
I checked the clock. There was still enough time.
I drank the coffee Maliya made me and focused on my work
I was drinking a lot of coffee, which wasn’t good for me.
I went over the evidence we had again and again to make it help Theo’s case, but the more I read the law, the harder it became for me to help him.
I thought I had cracked the code, but it led me to a dead end. Nothing was cleared.
And I wasn’t sure how to help Theo anymore.
When I looked at the clock again, it was 10pm. I stayed in the office, sorting more pieces of the puzzle while waiting for
Theo
He didnt call me, and I assumed he was too busy to do that. Thus, I didnt bother calling him to avoid interrupting something important
I yawned and stretched my bones, then lay my head on the table I was tired.
Before I knew it, I fell asleep, and when I woke up again, it was in the middle of the night, and I was still in the office.
I stood up and went to my bedroom. Theo wasn’t there. Meaning, he wasn’t back from the meeting yet.
My heart grew unsettled, and my stomach churned with dread.
I tried to link him, but it didn’t connect—he wasn’t in the area. I picked up my phone and called him, but still nothing
In my frustration and fear, I took a shower, ate dinner and slept

I woke up to water splashing loudly in our bathroom. I hopped to my feet, knowing it wouldn’t be anyone other than Theo.
“Honey,” I rushed to the bathroom.
Theo had his back to the entrance, and I caught sight of his perfectly sculpted back, his form ass. He looked like a god, and I was amazed.
“Blue eyes, you are awake,” Theo washed off the lather on his face. “I didn’t mean to wake you up, I’m sorry”
“Forget about that,” I dismissively said. “What happened? Why didn’t you call me or return my calls? Why didn’t you come back last night? And the meeting? How did it go?”
I asked numerous questions with one goal before I could stop myself. It looked ridiculous, but I was worried for him.
“Hey, slow down” Theo walked out and cupped my chin. “I’m fine. The meeting got delayed and prolonged because things got heated, and I couldn’t leave to make a call. I’m sorry, I made you worry, but I assure you, I’m fine”
I breathed, letting out a big sigh.
“That’s a relief then. I’m glad”, I beamed and hugged him.
“The proceedings are starting soon, we need to leave for the council court”. Theo informed me. “Please go get ready”

Chapter 143
I shook my head. He walked out of the bathroom
I went in and took a bath, but I couldn’t stay as long as I wanted because we were in a hurry.
After getting ready, we left for the main council courthouse in Kingspire District.
I couldn’t believe my eyes when we stepped out of the car, and the courthouse wasn’t as I was expecting It was grand and beautiful
It was very different from the lame courthouse within the pack.
I didn’t realise how developed the Shadowclaw pack was until now; it was the second-most developed pack after the Nightshade pack.
The Silvermoon pack wouldn’t even be in the top twenty from the top of my head.
I smiled, looking at the district. It was the capital of the pack, but Theo’s mansion was in the heart of the pack, so that he would be able to oversee everything.
Suddenly, I felt bad for not coming to Kingspire District sooner it was beautiful and inviting, exactly where I’d love to be.
We walked into the auditorium with Theo’s hand behind my back, leading me as his Luna, and everyone stared at us. I smiled inwardly.
I couldn’t help noticing the auditorium’s interesting seating arrangement.
People were sitting according to their level of importance, and so happened to be Theo’s mate, so I was sitting with him, in his lane, and I liked the privacy of it.
There was a large podium with speakers and a microphone in the middle of the ground floor, reserved for the assembly’s speaker.
We settled in and were served drinks to keep us company while the hearing started.
While we waited, Theo and I chatted discreetly; he looked into my eyes, and I could see fear in his eyes.
He was afraid of the outcome of the hearing and how it would affect our child and me.
I kissed his knuckles and assured him that we would be just fine and that he should focus on the case at hand.
We will get through this together.
“I don’t know what I’ll do without you,” Theo mouthed. “Thank you, Kaia”
“It’s our fight,” I said.
Just then, a man approached our lane.
“Alpha Theo,” the man said, bowing to pay his respect.
“This is a respected court; only family members are allowed in during proceedings. Please ask Kaia Nightshade to leave the
room”
He glanced at me, and I could swear I saw rage and disdain in his dark blue eyes.
“She’s going to be my wife, so she and her family will attend the bearing, Theo said.
“But Alpha, that’s not exactly the rule. She’s not your wife, and you haven’t claimed each other yet. So, she’s still technically an outsider,” The man argued, and I saw rage in Theo’s eyes.

“Are you challenging my decision?” Theo’s Alpha rolled off him, and the man choked, unable to speak.

Theo never uses his authority because he wants to be fair to everyone, without resorting to force, but they seem to be taking it for granted.
“No, that’s not what I meant, Alpha. I’m sorry,” he apologised. “dy Kaia can stay if she wants to”
The way my title changed in his mouth was so funny, but I stopped myself from laughing.
He scurried away, his tail wagging behind him.
I wish Theo would show them more of what he was capable of. They think of him as weak because he was lenient and considerate.
They seem to respect authority; Theo should be one more bossy
Soon, the proceedings started, and Theo was invited to the accused stand.
Despite being the alpha, he was made to stand in the accused box since the accusations against him were serious, and Theo complied.
He was level-headed, and I see why they were taking advantage of him.
When the council arrived and sat down, I noticed they weren’t the same councillors from the pack house; these were different and scarier.
My heart skipped a beat.
The speaker took the mic and looked at me, then at Theo.
“Alpha Theo Ashford, I welcome you to the council court. And I believe you know why you have been summoned here,” the speaker, Garry Walter, said, and Theo nodded. “Very well, let’s get right to the case”
“Two days ago, we got a report that you sent enforcers to attack poor villages in the deep west because they failed to pay taxes that you imposed on them unfairly. When they couldn’t pay up, you killed them, one after the other.
We also learned that you imposed these taxes without deliberation with the council, and it was totally your own doing for your selfish reasons, Alpha Theo”
The man said, and I was annoyed by his tone, but Theo was calm
“I wouldn’t do that,” Theo said. “Not as a person, and certainly not as an Alpha. My duty is first to my people, and my own selfish desires come last
The villages in the deep west, especially Seeland, are very poor and in serious crisis after the war; they are not in condition to pay taxes at all, and I wouldn’t think of making them pay one either”
“Very well said, Alpha Theo”, Garry Wakter commended. “But why didn’t you think of this when you sent out orders?”
“Because I didn’t send out any orders!” Theo retorted.
“So, how do you explain the proof that we recovered?” Garry asked. “Are you saying those are fabricated?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Theo said.
I was seething where I sat, my fingers digging into my palm subconsciously.
“The proofs are in our possession, Alpha Theo,” he said, and people began to murmur. “This is your chance to admit your wrongdoings and get a lesser punishment because this is your first offence.

Chapter 143
Theo was in deep trouble, and I wouldn’t let him take a fall for something he didn’t do.
“What proof do you have that he sent out the orders?” I stood up abruptly and asked.
The whole turned to me, and I stood there firmly, taking all their questioning and annoyed gazes.
