“I can’t believe you’re getting married soon, time flew so fast”, Maliya gushed, knitting a sock.

I smiled, thinking of all the things I had to go through to get here.

And when I got her, Maliya was the first person who was kind to me apart from Theo and Zane.

She made my life a lot better, and I was grateful to her.

“It feels like yesterday that she got here,” Justine chimed in. “And now, she’s going to be the Luna and lady of the West. Im so happy for you”

She clutched my hand and her eyes blinked at me with genuine happiness.

“You guys are going to make me cry,” I said, wiping the tears welling up in my eyes. “Having you guys around has been the best thing that happened to me. I would never trade this for anything else”

“I wish none of this was this or not because your name is happening at this time,” Maliya breathed. “You deserve a peaceful crowning”

I also wish none of this was happening. I could see how much this was taking a toll on Theo, and I hated that I couldn’t help him get rid of it immediately.

I felt awful watching him stay up all night, working tirelessly to catch the culprits. However, it seems the people behind everything are ghosts that we cannot see.

I know that’s why he allied with Draven to help fish out the recruits in his pack. Once we can get our hands on a few people. the others will be fished out as well.

“I think we should go question the enforcer again,” Justine suggested, and I agree. “We might get something useful from him”

“Alright,” I breathed. “We need to fact-check a few things with him. Starting with Theo’s supposed security aid, Ramos”

“Wait, I forgot to mention,” Justine said, and I looked attentively at her. “When Theo was leaving for the forest, he let Ramos go. After all, he wouldn’t be doing anything for him in the forest

I scratched my neck; something was bothering me.

“But I don’t understand something,” I said, confused. “Why would Theo go to the forest when he could send his men to go after the attackers?”

“Because the council forces him to do it,” Justine said. “They kept calling him weak and wanted him to prove that he was fit to be Alpha.”

I clenched my fists, slamming them hard against the table. Everything on it shook vigorously, but I didnt care.

“Theo really let those people treat him like he wasn’t the Alpha? asked, and anger rolled off my body. “What kind of a person was he?”

Justine nodded without looking at me, and I was even more pissed.

“Please don’t tell the Alpha,” Justine locked eyes with me, pleading, and I knew she was about to say something blunt. “Theo was a pushover; he wanted to get their approvals so much that he would do whatever they asked him.

The first time I saw him stand up to the council was because of you. He has changed since you came into his life, and we have you to thank for it”

I thought about it, and rage consumed me.

Theo did everything right. He loved and showered his people with everything he had, and this is how they repay him?

By betraying him and setting him up as a war criminal?

Whoever this person was, I will make that bastard cry, but not a single tear will drop from his eyes. Instead, he would cry blood, and I would make him drink and choke on it.

“Kappa Taylor is ready with the suspect, let’s head to the questioning room”, I said, standing up, and they stood up.

We were eager to carry out this task, and I was grateful to have my two friends with me. They make everything feel so much better and lighter.

“Let’s do this, I’m so excited for whatever we are going to do!” Justine grinned, and I giggled.

She’s funny.

We stood up to go, just then, Justine felt nauseous and rushed to the bathroom to throw up.

“What’s wrong?” I ran after her.

She couldn’t speak, she just ran into the bathroom, and we ran after her.

By the time we got to her, she had stopped vomiting. She was sitting and heaving.

“Please get some water, Maliya”, I said, and she ran off.

She returned a minute later with the water. I took it and splashed some on Justine’s face.

Justine relaxed, letting the water cool her down.

“Are you okay?” Maliya said with concern. “Maybe I should get the doctor”

“No, don’t worry!” Justine said she was smiling.

Maliya and I looked at each other, confused. This crazy woman was sick and throwing up, and here she was smiling like she won a lottery.

“Do we need to call the psychiatrist?” I asked, joking. “Because why are you smiling when you’re sick?”

Justine chuckled, then wiped her face with the towel, and walked out of the bathroom with us.

“I’m not sick, it’s the usual”, she winked at me, and my mind stopped working.

“Wait, you don’t mean it”, I said in disbelief.

“I meant every word of it, Kaia,” Justine smiled. “I’m pregnant”

“Congratulations!” I pulled her into my arms, hugging her. “This is insane, I’m so happy for you!”

“Thank you, Kaia,” Justine said as she pulled away after the hug.’m here because of you. I don’t know how to thank you for everything”

I frowned, pretending to be angry.

Chapter 154

“What are you saying? This is all about you, don’t make it about me, Justine,” I said, and she chuckled.

“No, seriously, it had to be said,” she insisted.

“Congratulations, Justine”, Maliya hugged her. “You’re going to be the best mother ever!”

“I agree!” I said, and we laughed. “So, since when?” I asked.

“Last night,” Justine said, and she looked shy.

I smiled and hugged her again. She had always wanted this, and I’m glad she got it.

The goddess was kind to my friend and me, and I was grateful.

I looked at the time and turned to her.

“Maybe you should get some rest, Justine,” I suggested. “Maliya and I will interrogate Shiloh. You can’t be under a lot of stress, so you have to stay out”

“Heck no!” Justine jumped to her feet. “Im not staying out, I’m coming with, and that’s final”

“Are you sure about this?” I asked, and she nodded.

We left the beta wing and headed straight to the interrogation room, whereKappa Taylor was waiting for us with Enforcer Gilbert.

When we arrived, the man was chained to the chair with silver, and he was stripped to his underwear.

I don’t remember asking them to treat him like a criminal.

I turned to Kappa Taylor with a frown.

“Why is he stripped half-naked?” I asked.

“Forgive me, Lady Kaia,” Kappa Taylor bowed his head. “Its”

“I asked them to strip him,” Justine stepped in. “That’s how liars should be treated. Until he opens his mouth and tells the truth, he will be treated as a suspect and suspects are treated like this”

I was shocked. I had no idea how brutal Justine could be, and she just showed me a glimpse of it.

“Im telling the truth, Lady Kaia,” Enforcer Gilbert said, facing me

For some reason, he felt I was the safe option, and he turned to me, begging for mercy.

If he doesn’t open his mouth and give me useful information, I would be worse than Justine.

“Enforcer Gilbert,” I called out, taking a seat in front of him. “See my friends and I are giving you a chance to come clean and give us all the information that would potentially save your fe. If you blow this up, I’m afraid you’ll have to face the death penalty”

Once I said this, Shiloh looked at me in shock, and fear flashed in his eyes.

If he had thought that I would treat criminals as Theo would, then he was wrong. I’m not Theo; I will not go easy on him.

“Look, I’m not going to repeat myself. Give us something that proves your innocence. And that guy, Ramos, I learned that Theo took him off duty before leaving for the forest. How come you were not aware of this fact?”

“I genuinely wasn’t aware of anything,” he said, and I wanted to believe him, but I couldn’t trust his words; it doesn’t add up.

“Okay, I understand that, but how do we know that you have no hand in this?” I asked, and he lowered his head.

“I don’t know, but I promise, I have no idea what’s going on. I’m innocent, my lady”

“Where do you think Ramos could be?” Justine asked.

“I have no idea, but his family might know,” he mentioned, and asked Kappa Taylor to look for his family.

“Alright, you will remain in locks’until everything is proven”, I said, standing up. “I hope you’ll cooperate.”

I stood up, and Shiloh bowed his head in respect.

The three of us were made to leave, but I stopped in my tracks when we were outside.

“Get him something to eat and a change of clothes,” I instructed Kappa Taylor.

We left.

“Do you think he was telling the truth?” Maliya asked, I had the same thought.

“I hope for his sake that he was, otherwise, I have a lot to do to him, and he wouldn’t like it”, I threatened, my face cold with

rage.
