The packs outcast Luna (Kaia and Theo) novel Chapter 170

Chapter 170

–Draven–

I returned to my hotel room confused.

Kaia’s words kept ringing in my head, and I couldn’t get them out.

No matter how much I tried to convince myself that Kaia was lying to save herself, I couldn’t stop myself from thinking there was truth to what she was saying.

Pouring myself a glass of liquor, I walked to the window and looked out.

I paced around the room, feeling unsettled.

The confidence I came to Shadowclaw with has suddenly vanished, and now I can’t even tell if my own story is believable anymore.

I paced once, twice, then stopped and dragged a hand over my face.

Kaia’s words wouldn’t stop replaying.

“Everything that happened was because of you. If you hadn’t cheated on me, if you hadn’t believed her over me. Then, maybe we wouldn’t be here right now”

“You can’t come here and throw accusations at me. You lost that right the day you chose her.”

I sank onto the edge of the bed, elbows on my knees, staring at the floor as if something would come out of it if I stared a little longer.

Nothing made sense anymore, and I felt as if I was losing grip of the truth.

For months, and months, I’d held onto one version of the story.

My mind knew only one truth, and Andi had held onto that belief ever since.

Kaia had betrayed me; she had hired rogues to take out Liora, who was pregnant with my heir.

She had tried to kill Liora, and she had a motive, too.

And every time someone questioned it, every time doubt surfaced, I shoved it down and clung to Liora’s words.

Because of the other side of the story, the other side made me look like a damned fool.

But hearing Kaia say it with her steady voice, which I expected to shake but didn’t, and those eyes that didn’t plead or beg for my Mercy.

She should have begged me not to expose her in front of Theo because no pack in their right senses would accept a woman

like her.

She was an attempted murderer, and it would be a stain to have her as a Luna.

But she stood firmly and faced me, throwing my accusations back in my face.

That threw everything off balance.

Kaia didn’t look guilty, and when she talked to me, she didn’t sound manipulative at all.

Σ

O

As a matter of fact, she didn’t act like someone who had something to hide.

Instead, she looked like someone who was finally free to say whatever had been eating her out.

And that got

under my skin more than the accusations.

I leaned back, staring at the ceiling.

When did she start looking at me like a stranger? The Kaiai knew I was madly in love with me, and having me in her life meant everything to her.

I can’t believe she was mated to another man, and at the same time, she treated me like a stranger who was barging into her life to disrupt it.

When did she stop caring?

I rubbed my jaw, frustration twisting in my gut.

Liora had told me so many things.

I remember her crying, shaking, clinging to me.

Every time, Kaia bullied her. I remember her telling me about how much Kaia hated her.

Whenever Kaia would threaten her for getting pregnant with my child, she would cry in my arms until she fell asleep.

The fear in her voice was evident and felt real.”

Was all of that real? Or was I just too willing? And too stupid to see what was going on?

Too blinded by the attention, the comfort, the convenient affection?

Did I let my own selfishness and refusal to take accountability for what I did to my mate prevent me from seeing the truth?

Kaia’s voice echoed in my head again.

“You let her fix it for you.”

I grimaced. Was that what I did?

Was I so desperate to avoid responsibility that I let someone else hand me an easy villain?

I pushed to my feet, pacing again.

Kaia had looked at me like I wasn’t worth her time.

Like she had outgrown me. Like she meant every damn word she said about having a better life without me.

Theo.

I hated the way his name felt in my chest.

I hated the way she looked at him. She didn’t look at him with fear or uncertainty, but with that desperate need to be enough.

She looked at him like she trusted him.

I never got that look.

I can’t remember the last time she really looked at me like that. Not without her forcing herself to believe in me.

A bitter laugh escaped me.

“Fuck.”

For the first time since the whole mess began, I actually allowed myself to wonder.

What if I was wrong? What if Kaia didn’t do any of the things she was accused of?

What if everything I believed was a lie someone fed me, and I swallowed it whole because that was what I wanted to hear?

I sat back down slowly.

Kaia’s face flashed in my mind. She was strong, resilient and unapologetically the woman I knew from years ago.

She looked better than she did the last time I saw her in court, during her sentencing.

Now, she wasn’t the saleswoman anymore. She looked better.

And the worst part?

My wolf growled in my head, mockingly scolding me.

“You did this to yourself. Dont even try to shift this on anyone else”

For the first time. I didn’t argue.

I quickly dialled my beta.

“Rylan, send me all the reports you got from the investigation. Every single one of them,” I said when he picked up.

My head was spinning, and I wouldn’t find peace until I knew what the real truth was.

“And keep an eye on Liora, better still, send a shadow scout to watch over her at all times,” I instructed.

“What’s going on?” Rylan asked, but I wasn’t in the mood to go into details now.

Besides, I wasn’t even sure what the truth was anymore.

I was doubting myself and everything I had known for months. Hopefully, it was nothing.

Just my paranoia and the need to prove that Kaia was guilty, and she was pretending.

Soon, my phone buzzed, and I knew Rylan had sent the reports to me.

I rushed to check it out, and to my hunch, it was the report.

I sat down and read through it.

Half of my pack members were somehow involved in the terrorist attack.

And the elite on my list were plotting to overthrow me soon, with the help of a man they referred to as master.

This master happened to have subordinates in every region on the continent, including mine, and these regional heads were the bosses.

My head throbbed the more I read through the report.

What the hell was going on with these people? What exactly are they looking for?

After skimming through the list, I let out a sigh of relief when I didnt see Liora in the report.

My wife was innocent after all.

I can’t believe I doubted her because of Kaia. That woman was full of shit, and I let her influence me.

She was trying to fool me into getting off her back and letting her get away with her crimes, and she almost succeeded.

Too bad for her, I caught onto her lies in time.

I ordered dinner, then dropped my phone and took a quick shower.

I needed the cold water to wash away all the stress I had been under.

When I came out of the shower, someone was ringing the doorbell, and I assumed it was the food I ordered.

Sure, it was. I opened the door and got my food.

I settled in to eat after changing into a comfortable shirt, something better than the one I had been wearing the entire time.

I decided to look through my email while eating. I hadn’t checked all day, and I had work pending before I came here.

Upon logging in, I dug into my food and ate to my satisfaction.

While eating, my eyes caught something, and I stopped. I felt my heart palpitate quickly.

I clicked the image on the laptop, zooming into it, and when I saw what it was, my cutlery slipped from my hand. My hand was trembling.

“No, this can’t be”, I said, trembling softly.

But I couldn’t deny the photo in front of me; it was as clear as day.

Soon, my phone rang, and I picked up. It was Rylan.

“I’m sorry, Draven. I wanted to tell you

this in person,

but

you

didn’t let me,” Rylan said apologetically.

I scoffed at my own stupidity and dropped the call.

“Liora, how could you do this?” I asked nobody in particular. “Was it you who let the rogues go? But why? They tried to kill you because of Kaia’s scheme, right? Then, what is this?”

At this point, I lost my appetite.

Confusion was eating me up, and I couldn’t deny what was in front of me.

This was no brainer; there is no smoke without fire,

Something was brewing right under my nose, and I was too stupid to let it happen.

Weak in the knee, I lay on the bed, feeling shaken.

At the last minute, I decided to call Liora. She picked the second ring.

“Hey, darling,” her sweet voice came on. “Did you miss me that much, already?” She asked, then chuckled.

“Yes,” I mouthed, my throat was dry and painful. “I miss you and our little kitten. I can’t wait to come home to you, darling”

“Aww, that’s so sweet,” Liora said. “We miss you so much and can’t wait to have you back. I know you wouldn’t have left if this business trip wasn’t important”

“Ueah! You’re right,” I agreed. “So, what are you doing right now

“Right now?” she asked, taken aback. “I’m eating. I was craving pickles, so I had the omega make some for me. Now, I’m munching on it. Our little kitten craves everything, and I’m forced to satisfy its cravings”

I heard her breathe, and I could tell she was tense. I wonder what was making her so anxious.

“I’m sorry, darling,” I apologised. “It will be over really soon.”

“I can’t wait to have you back by my side,” Liora purred.

“I will be with you shortly,” I muttered. “Look after yourself and our baby. I love you, darling. Good night”

“Good night,”

I stared at my phone. Something was fishy, and Liora was hiding something from me; I could hear it in her voice.

I turned off the lights and tried to sleep.

Thankfully, Theo asked me to stay the night in his pack, and I could go home in the morning.

I was grateful because I couldn’t face Liora right now.

Especially if what Kaia was saying turned out to have a pinch of truth in it.

I drifted off to sleep, hoping that when I woke up, everything would be just the way it was.
