Chapter 188
~~Draven~~
Seeing Liora so angry, I was scared for her and the baby.
She was losing her mind when she walked up to me, and I knew it was something bad.
So, I sent the warrior I was talking to away.
She held up a paper in front of me, and I kicked myself for acting so stupidly.
“What is this?” She asked. “Do you want to explain?”
She was seething, and I saw her fists clenched subconsciously.
I was stupid to have left the letter out, and now Liora was losing her mind over it.
I hadn’t expected her to find the letter.
However, watching her rage and how personal her fury was, it told me more than she realised.
She wasn’t just angry that I hid this from her; she looked threatened, and that piqued my curiosity.
“Why didn’t you tell me about this?” Liora asked. “That Kaia was alive, and a powerful pack was protecting her?”
I tried to calm her down.
I didn’t want to give her any reason to doubt my intention.
Liora is my mate, and I will always take her side first.
However, after all the facts I’ve come across so far, I wanted to make sure the person who hurt her wouldn’t get away because she now has powerful people behind her.
I took her hand and stepped into our room. She didn’t try to move my hands, and I was grateful for that.
When we got in, she threw herself into a chair, folded her arms tightly, her chest rising and falling with sharp breaths.
“Liora,” I said calmly. She glared up at me, eyes glistening with a mix of fury and tears.
“You hid this from me, Draven, from me. How could you do this to me?” She asked, looking hurt.
I sighed softly, rubbing the bridge of my nose in slow frustration.
“It wasn’t about hiding it,” I lied smoothly. “I just didn’t want you panicking until I understood what was going
on.”
Her stare sharpened.
“Panicking?” she hissed. “Why would I panic? I deserve to know what’s going on! Kaia tried to kill my baby and me, shouldn’t I be the first to know the truth about her? Then, why am I the last one around here to know?”
Liora had every right to feel betrayed, and whatever I say wouldn’t convince her.
Instead of playing the blame game, I stepped closer and lowered myself in front of her.
“Liora,” I said softly. “Listen to me, I wasn’t trying to hide anything from you. I only found out the truth this morning, and before I could tell you about it, my parents showed up and distracted my attention” Finally, I saw Liora take a deep breath and calm down.
“I will get to the bottom of this. The council isn’t stupid-they must have seen something we didn’t. Or someone is feeding them lies.”
Her eyes darted away.
“I’m working on it,” I said. “I’ll find out who’s stirring this up and why. And when I do, they’ll regret it.”
Liora exhaled shakily, her anger softening into desperate relief.
“There is no need to look into whoever was behind this. I’m sure it’s Kala doing this to taunt me”, Liora firmly said. “She’s trying to remind me of the av ful things Lpassed through because of her”

“I know,” I said. “Kaia can never change. Fine, I will send the council a letter with evidence of the incident. Nobody is reopening the case; I will not allow it. Kaia was rightfully punished for her actions, and that’s it” She wanted so badly to believe me, and I tried to make her.
“Thank you,” she whispered. “I just don’t like feeling blindsided.”
“I know,” I said. “You won’t be. I will never do that again.”
She nodded, finally calming, taking a deep breath, and I smiled, holding her in my arms.
Liora looked as terrified as Someone who was scared of her lies being exposed. I desperately hoped that
everyone was wrong and that Liora was just scared of what Kaia might do to her.
However, I couldn’t deny how bizarre her behaviour was, and for the third time today, I was starting to question whether the woman in front of me was exactly who she claimed to be.
I managed to get her to sleep, and I slept too.
When I woke up, Liora was still sleeping. I didn’t want to disturb her sleep, and I quietly left the bed.
I was awfully starving, and I decided to go for breakfast first.
When I arrived at the breakfast table, my family was already eating.
“Hi, big brother,” Rabiya waved at me, and I smiled back.
My father didn’t spare me a glance, and I could understand his anger.
He was truly disappointed in me, but you can’t blame me for doing what I thought was right.
I didn’t say anything to them and sat down while someone gave me a plate.
I ate my food in silence; only Rabiya was chattering, trying to lift the mood, but it wasn’t working.
When I was done, I stood up and left the table, headed to my study for a quick bit of work.
While I was working, my mother stood in the doorway, looking at me.
“Come in, Mom,” I said, inviting her in.
She walked in and stood by my desk for a few seconds, and then she started walking around.
My mother hadn’t stopped pacing since she came into my office.
“What is it, mother?” I asked, and she turned to me.
“Draven,” she whispered, “please go find Kaia before it’s too late.”
I swallowed hard, trying to breathe, but my chest tightened around the memories I’d been shoving away for years.
My mother’s voice cracked.
“She was just a child, Draven-a child with no wolf. And you… You were her whole world for so long. She trusted you more than she trusted herself.”
“Mom-”
“No, Draven. You listen to me.” Her voice rose slightly.
“Whatever lies that woman Liora told you about her is not true. Whatever you think happened, Kala is not the monster you painted her to be. She would never hurt anyone. Not even when she was hurting.”
I looked away, my jaw tightening.
If she knew the doubts clawing at me every night.
But I couldn’t say it, not yet.
My mother stepped closer, gripping my hands.
“Draven, my son… find Kaia,” she muttered. “Bring her home before anything happens to her”
Her voice broke completely. “And before you lose the last good thing you ever had.”

I closed my eyes.
“I… already know where she is,” I said, and my mother froze, catching her breath.
“You do?”
I nodded slowly, staring at the desk because I couldn’t bear to look her in the eyes.
“She’s alive,” I murmured. “She’s with the Shadowclaw Pack now. Their Alpha… he’s protecting her.”
Her eyes widened with sudden hope.
“Then go. Let’s go, Draven and bring her back before something bad happens to her.” She suggested, trying to pull herself together.
I wished I could. But I shook my head.
“Mom… It’s too late.” I muttered, looking away from her gaze.
“What?” She grabbed my arm, her voice rising in panic. “Draven, what do you mean it’s too late?”
I forced myself to say it.
“She’s… mated.” My throat tightened around the word. “To another Alpha.”
My mother stopped moving and looked at me as if I were playing a prank on her.
My mother’s grip on my arm loosened as her face crumpled into shock.
She had always been fond of Kaia and thought she was good for me.
“Oh, Draven…”
I looked away, but the look on her face made my chest ache.
My mother stared at me for a long, agonising second, then smack.
Her palm struck my cheek so hard my head snapped sideways.
I froze. She had never, once in my life, raised a hand against me.
