Chapter 197
–Theo–
I couldn’t contain my surprise when I got a call from Draven, asking to meet.
He sounded urgent, and I wondered what the matter was.

Draven told me he will be in Shadowclaw by tonight, and I asked him to wait for me in the same hotel as last time.
I had been busy the past few days, going after the names we got from our hostages.
Fortunately, we apprehended an important figure involved in the impending attack, but he refused to divulge any information regarding the mastermind.
I soon realised the mastermind was a clever person who had trained his minions to die for him. They would rather die than give him up.
Going after him wouldn’t be easy, but I was determined to put an end to his rain of terror.
So far, nothing out of the ordinary has happened since Kaia left.
Talking to Auntie Morgana earlier, I knew Kaia would be safe with her, and I was glad she took the responsibility of looking after her for me.
Walking to my car, Zane linked me.
“Theo,” Zane said. “Ramos left us a clue, and I sent some men to go check it out.”
“That’s alright,” I linked him back. “I would have gone there personally, but I need to see Draven”
“I will take care of things here, you go ahead”, Zane said and cut the mindlink.
I got into my car and zoomed off to the hotel.
Judging from Draven’s voice, whatever he wanted to discuss with me was serious, and I assumed it was best we spoke in private.
And the best place for that was the hotel.
Besides, I had to look after Zane and the boys once I finished with Draven.
I want to end these terror attacks as soon as possible, and for that to happen, I need to move fast.
I arrived before Draven, went straight to the CEO’s suite, and waited for him.
About 30 minutes later, he called me, and I directed him to the suite.
I was working on my laptop when I heard a knock.

I raised my head when I heard it, and I already knew who it was.
I opened the door, and Draven stood there looking ruined.
Eyes bloodshot with messy hair and shaky breath. He looked like he hadn’t slept in days.
He didn’t wait for an invitation. He brushed past me and walked inside like a man possessed.
I closed the door quietly.
“Draven.”
He turned to me.
And the moment his eyes met mine, he broke down.

His eyes watered, but he held it back. He was trying so hard inside, but something snapped. His shoulders buckled, and his jaw trembled.
“Please,” he rasped, voice cracking. “I… I need to talk to you.”
I gestured for him to sit, but he sank onto the couch as if his legs couldn’t hold him anymore.
“I found out the truth,” he whispered. “About… about everything.”
A cold current ran down my spine.
“What truth?”
He let out a broken laugh and dragged both hands down his face.
“Liora,” he choked out. “She lied. She’s been lying from the very beginning.”
I didn’t breathe and just stayed there staring at him.
Anyone could have said this, and they would be right. Except Draven was blinded by her.
He looked up at me with haunted eyes.
“Kaia was never barren,” he said with his voice shaking. “The reports were forged-all of them. I confronted the healer who wrote those records, and she confessed the truth. The healer claimed she was threatened and bribed to forge the report”
My fists clenched.
He continued, his breath hitching and words tumbling out in panic and shame.
“She told me Kaia tried to kill her. She showed me her bruises and all this evidence, and I believed her. I believed her over Kaia, who never once lied to me. Who stayed loyal even when I didn’t deserve it.”
He swallowed hard, tears welling.

“My parents came home,” he whispered. “They told me I lost the best woman to ever walk into my life. They wouldn’t even look at Liora.”
I stayed quiet. He needed to calm himself and gather his words.
“And then-” He let out a shaking breath. “I saw the Shadowclaw investigation letter. They’re reopening Kaia’s case.”
He laughed again, but this time it was more like a sob.
“That’s when I knew. Something was wrong. Something wasn’t adding up’
He leaned forward, elbows on his knees, hands trembling.
“Liora panicked when she saw the letter,” he said shakily.
“She tried to destroy it. Tried to play it off and get me to refuse the investigation. I realised then that she’s afraid. She’s hiding something big and was afraid the truth would be revealed if the investigation took place”
I asked quietly, “Did you confront her?”
He scoffed. “Not yet. I pretended to believe her and promised to refuse the investigation just as she wanted. I went behind her back and did some digging. I found out everything she had been lying about. But Theo…”
He looked at me, his eyes as red and swollen, full of regret that could drown a man.
“I wronged Kaia,” he whispered.
“I destroyed her life because I trusted a viper. I disgraced her in front of the whole world and banished her. I turned my back on the one person who never betrayed me.”
He swallowed hard and looked away.
“I know she’s your mate now. I’m not here to cause problems.”
He stood up slowly, wiping his face.
“I came here because… because she deserves justice.” His voice cracked. “And because I can’t live another day knowing I didn’t try to fix the damage I caused.”
I fell silent, listening to him. Then Draven whispered.
“Tell me what I need to do. Please. I’ll do anything.”
When I looked at the man in front of me, I saw Draven not as an Alpha.
But as a man drowning in the consequences of choosing the wrong woman.
I had no idea what to tell him. I just sat there and let Draven speak until he ran out of breath.
