“Long time, no see,” the man drawled, a grin stretching across his scarred face.
His voice slithered into the cold room, and I shivered.
For some reason, his face looked familiar, and that scared me.
I blinked, trying to steady my breathing as the fog in my head slowly cleared.
My wrists were tied, and my ankles too.

I was forced to kneel in front of the man; I couldn’t stay on my knees, and they forcefully sat on a chair.
And this strange man was acting like we were old friends.
He stepped closer, his boots echoing across the floor.
“It’s nice to see you again. Do you remember me?” His grin widened, sharp and gleeful.
“I’m Tarick Moss.”
My heart stalled. I had heard the name before, and people feared him.
He was the tyrant Alpha who waged war against smaller packs to become the ultimate leader.
He killed innocent people and seized their packs. Unfortunately, he couldn’t become the ultimate leader.
My heart jumped in my throat, wondering what he wanted with me and how he was still alive after all these
years.
Hearing his name sent shivers down my spine, and when I raised my head, he was looking at me with an ugly smirk.
A cold sweat washed down my
back.
“I…” My throat tightened. “Who are you?”
The smile on his face faltered for a second. Then he let out a cruel and throaty laughter.
“Oh, sweetheart. You really don’t remember.” He crouched in front of me, eyes gleaming with mischief, and my heart pounded. “That actually makes this more fun.”
I jerked back, the chair scraping.
“What do you mean? Why am I here? What do you want from me?” I asked, struggling to free myself.
He reached out and flicked a strand of hair from my face, and I shuddered.

“You were a loud little thing the last time I dragged you away. Screaming your father’s name and begging your mother to come save you.” His eyes narrowed. “You were so tiny, I easily fit you into my pocket”
My chest constricted.
Suddenly, the nightmares I had about the man with the skull crest and the little girl begging to be let go came crashing down on me, and I shook my head.
No, it can’t be true.
Tarick watched my reaction with twisted satisfaction.
“Still don’t remember?”
He tapped his own chest, right over the same skull symbol from the jet.
“You’ve seen this before. I know you have.”
My breath hitched. This… this was the man from my nightmares.
“And unfortunately for you,” he said, standing tall, “your father ruined everything. Twice. So this time, I’m making sure you stay where I put you.”
My blood ran cold.
“Who is my father?” I whispered, looking up at him.
Tarick smirked and pinched my cheek.
“Oh, little Nightshade. You’ll find out soon enough. But first-let’s see if your powers wake up faster under pressure.”
“What powers are you talking about?” I asked, confusion driving me crazy. “Please let me go, I don’t have anything to give you”
“Oh, leave that to me to decide,” He snapped his fingers.
“Is it money? How much?” I asked. “Tell me, I will sell everything I have to pay you what you want”
He turned to look at me and then burst into laughter, and I knew there was no point negotiating with him.
“You are something else, you know?” He cackled. “What can you possibly give me? Do I look like I need your money? Besides, you don’t have the leverage to make negotiations”
With that, he turned to leave, and the door behind him creaked open.
Before I could say anything, he disappeared from my eyes.
“Please let me go!” I screamed, scraping the chair on the floor.
Tarick didn’t bother with me and walked away.

I sat there, breathing hard, my heart still racing from everything he said.

Everything he said was confusing to me, but I couldn’t forget the way he looked at me like I was something he owned.
Something he’d been waiting for, and he finally got his hands on it.
My breath hitched and stayed there, staying at the empty walls in silence.
Then I heard footsteps approaching my cell again.
It wasn’t Tarick; these footsteps were lighter and more familiar.
My head snapped up when the door creaked open again.
And there he was, Miguel.
Leaning against the doorway like this was nothing.
And I wasn’t tied up in a dark cell, because he kidnapped me and handed me over to a monster.
Rage surged through me.
“You,” I spat, my voice shaking. “What’s going on, Miguel?” Why are you doing this? What do you think you are doing?”
He stepped inside slowly, shutting the door behind him with a quiet click.
“For someone in your position,” he said lazily, “you’re asking a lot of questions.”
I struggled against the ropes, ignoring the burn in my wrists.
“You brought me here!” I snapped. “You kidnapped and brought me. Why?!”
He tilted his head, watching me like I was mildly entertaining.
“Because,” he said, “you’re a pain in the ass.”
I stared at him.
“That’s it?” My voice broke slightly. “That’s your reason?”
He shrugged. “You show up, and suddenly everything starts shifting. My parents are acting weird, and my mother can’t stop looking at you like you’re-” he scoffed, cutting himself off. “Like you matter.”
Something twisted in my chest.
“Not to mention, you just had to eavesdrop on my phone call. This is all your fault if you had stayed away. None of this would have happened”
“That doesn’t mean you betray your own pack,” I said, my voice quieter now. “This is your own family,

“Don’t talk about my family like you know anything.” His eyes darkened.

“I know enough,” I shot back. “Katya loves you. Your mother defended you even when you were being awful. And this is what you do? You sell people out?”
For a split second, he hesitated. And then it was gone.
His face was cold, and rage was melting from his eyes.
“Spare me,” he muttered. “You think you’re some saint? Walking around like you are better than everyone else
in the world?”
“I never said that.”
“No,” he sneered. “But everyone else acts like it. Like you’re special, and you’re worth protecting.”
