Chapter 200
I couldn’t stay in this locked up.
Who knows what they would do to me? I touched my stomach, and tears welled up in my eyes.

No matter what, I will not let them harm my baby. And for me to ensure that, I will have to get out of here immediately.
Thankfully, I wasn’t cuffed with silver.
At least they had a little humanity left and took pity on me because of my pregnancy.
I was loosely tied with a rope; with Tamara’s help, I loosened it.
Once, I managed to get the ropes off. I checked my door, and it was locked.
Dipping my hand into my hair, I pulled out my hairpin and unlocked the door with it.
When I came out, two guards were watching my cell, but they were chatting away, and I silently slipped away unnoticed.
Finally, I sneaked out and made a run for it.
My heart pounded as I crawled through the narrow hallway.
My wrists ached, and my breath trembled, but I pushed forward. I didn’t know where it led, only that it was
away.
I have to run away from Tarick and from the nightmares creeping into my dreams.
When I finally reached the end, I shoved aside a rusted grate and stumbled out into the night air.
I was engulfed by cold; it was piercing.
I didn’t waste a second; I ran.
I burst into the woods, and branches scraped my arms as I darted through the woods.
When I thought I was almost there, I heard someone.
A shout ripped through the forest.
“She’s out here! Find her immediately! If you don’t bring her back, I will kill all of you!”
My blood turned cold.
I pushed myself harder, slipping through trees, ignoring the sting of twigs snapping underfoot.
For a moment, I thought I had a chance.

Then, a hand fisted in my hair.

I screamed as my entire body was yanked backwards, my knees slamming into the dirt. Pain shot up my spine.
“Thought you could run from me, little rabbit?” His voice slid over my skin, and I shuddered.
I twisted, clawing at his hand, his wrist, anything I could reach.
“Let go of me!” I choked out. “Let me go -”
He jerked my head back so violently that tears sprang to my eyes.
When I turned and saw who it was, my blood ran cold.
It was the same man who’d greeted me when I woke up here. He had a rough, scarred face.
Silas, Tarick Moss’s lieutenant.
Silas crouched, gripping my hair tighter, forcing my face upward.
“You almost made it,” he said mockingly. “Are you trying to keep us up all night, little rabbit?”
His fingers dug painfully into my scalp as he yanked me upright.
“Please,” I gasped. “You don’t have to do this-”
“Oh, I do,” he hissed. “Our master hates loose ends.”
He dragged me through the dirt, ignoring my kicking and struggling. My nails scraped against the ground, and my breath came out in sharp sobs.
And then, as he pulled me across the clearing, a memory hit me.
A little girl, screaming and thrashing while being dragged away by a man who towered over her.
Around his neck, the skull crest was hanging.
“No, no, no-” I whispered, panic crashing over me as the memory sharpened in pain.
When we reached the house, Silas stopped and threw me against the stone floor of the cell.
My shoulder hit hard, almost knocking the air out of me.
I gasped, trying to push myself up, but his boot pressed into the middle of my back, pinning me in place.
A harsh laugh spilt from him.
“Still as stubborn as ever, aren’t you?”
I froze. The way he said it, it felt as if he had known me before.

I didn’t have time to think about it, because Silas’s foot lifted, shifting downward towards my stomach.
My eyes widened in terror, and I shivered and backed away from him.
“No…Waot, please-“I choked out, scrambling to curl inward, both hands flying to protect my belly.
Pure fear surged through me.
His boot swung, and it connected with something harshly.
When I looked, it wasn’t me; his foot met the stone floor inches from my abdomen because I rolled fast, curling protectively around my bump.
The crack of the boot hitting the stone reverberated through the room.
Pain still shot up my hip as he nudged me again with the tip of his boot, Taunting.
“Look at you,” he sneered. “Still fighting to protect something that you won’t be able to save.”
Tears blurred my vision, but I kept my arms locked around my belly like a shield.
He crouched beside me, gripping my chin roughly and forcing my face upward.
“You think that little life inside you makes you brave?” he mocked.
His breath was hot and foul against my cheek.
“Don’t worry,” he whispered cruelly. “Our master has plans for you, big plans. And if you behave, maybe the brat gets to live long enough to see you.”
Rage burned through me, and I looked at him angrily.
