“Why did you go out to a party when I specifically asked you to take off negotiation on behalf of the pack?” Alpha Mathew asked.

His voice was sharp, and he appeared to be holding back his rage. However, his Alpha aura was still apparent.

“I already said I couldn’t, right?” Miguel retorted. “Why are you bothering me with something I dont want to do?”

“Are you out of your mind, Miguel?” he thundered, stepping toward him. “Is this how you intend to lead a pack one day? You can’t go to a pack negotiation, and someone disappears under your watch, and you don’t find out until fifteen hours later?”

Miguel stiffened, his shoulders locking, but his eyes.

Kaia had always said his eyes gave him away. His eyes flickered with guilt and annoyance.

“I-I told you,” Miguel muttered, rubbing the back of his neck. “I was at a friend’s party. My phone-”

“That is not an excuse!” Alpha Mathew barked. “A guest is missing. And you were… what? Getting drunk and celebrating, goddess knows what!

Morgana winced, but didn’t intervene.

I stood aside and let father and son come at each other.

I was sick and tired of Miguel acting like an entitled, spoiled brat, doing nothing to contribute.

“It’s a birthday party, Dad,” Miguel said, his jaw locking. “You’d never know since all you do is bury yourself in the pack affair and whine about me”

“Is partying more important to you than looking after your pack, huh, Miguel?” Alpha Mathew asked.

Alpha Mathew clenched his fists, anger rolling off of him.

But instead of backing down, Miguel laughed.

“Seriously?” he said, shaking his head. “You’re acting like I planned this. Is this my fault now? Are you going to blame me for this, too?”

Alpha Mathew took a slow step forward, his presence pressing down like a storm.

“Watch your tone, young man.”

Miguel’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t lower his gaze.

“I’m just saying,” he continued, lifting his hands slightly, “you’re blaming me for something I had nothing to

do with.”

Something flickered across Morgana’s face.

“Your responsibility as future Alpha,” Mathew said, his voice low with control, “is to be present and aware of everything happening around you. And when you fail, you take accountability.”

“And I am!” Miguel snapped back.

Katya flinched.

“I stepped out for a few hours, not a few days,” he went on, frustration bleeding through. “How was I supposed to know someone would sneak in and kidnap her?”

My wolf stirred when Miguel mentioned Kaia.

“It’s not your right to decide when your duty matters,” he said. “You don’t get to disappear when people depend on you.” Mathew’s eyes darkened.

Miguel scoffed, running a hand through his hair.

“People always depend on me,” he muttered. “Maybe that’s the problem.”

Morgana stepped forward now, and she held his shoulder.

“Miguel…”

But he shook his head, cutting her off.

“No seriously. Everyone acts like I’m already Alpha when my father doesn’t even trust me to lead, but the moment something goes wrong, I’m suddenly a failure.”

His gaze flickered briefly toward me.

“You want perfection,” he added bitterly. “Maybe look somewhere else.”

Mathew’s expression hardened.

“Enough.”

But Miguel didn’t look sorry; instead, he looked irritated.

“Walk away,” Mathew ordered.

Miguel held his gaze for a long second. Then exhaled sharply, turning toward the stairs.

But as he passed me, I caught it again.

It was a faint scent; it reeked of dirt and metal.

My voice dropped, quiet enough that only he could hear.

“You should be more careful.”

He paused for a second, then continued walking.

“Miguel,” Morgana called out to him as he was walking upstairs, and he stopped.

Miguel stopped in his tracks and looked back with irritation.

His shoulders were stiff, and his jaw locked.

Morgana stepped toward Miguel, her voice firm but trembling with exhaustion.

“Enough. You do not speak to your father like that,” she said, stepping forward. Her hands trembled, but her eyes were stern. “Apologise to him right now”

Miguel’s jaw clenched.

“Apologise for what, Mom?” he snapped. “For telling the truth? He’s acting like I committed some crime because I wasn’t home for a few hours.”

“A few hours?” Morgana’s voice cracked. “You were gone for almost fifteen, Miguel. And a girl is missing. A girl who lives under our roof.”

“That’s not my fault,” he fired back instantly. “I’m not Kaia’s babysitter.”

“I still think you should apologise to your father, Miguel,” Morgana insisted, and Miguel boiled with anger.

“Why should I, Mom?” he asked. “For not magically knowing where every worthless pack member is at every second of the day?”

Morgana flinched, and Alpha Mathew’s chest puffed with fury.

I cracked my bones with rage when I heard what he said.

“How dare you say that about Kaia?” I asked, grabbing his collar.

I threw my hand, ready to leave his face bruised, when Morgan came between us, stopping me from hitting him.

Morgana swallowed hard, her eyes shimmering with hurt rather than anger.

“Why are you doing this to us, Miguel?” Morgana asked, tears streaming down her cheeks.” Mathew isn’t just your father,” she said quietly, “he’s your Alpha. You don’t get to speak to him like this.”

Miguel scoffed, folding his arms. “I’m the future Alpha. Maybe people should stop treating me like some disobedient pup.”
