Chapter 206
Chapter 206
–Tarick–
:
I’ve waited for this day my whole life, and it’s finally here.
Walking in, I saw her. After all these years, there she was.

Fighting with Silas and digging her claws into him. Despite being weak and pregnant, she was ready to risk it.
When she couldn’t win, she remained on the floor-breathing hard with her eye blazing with defiance despite the fear shaking through her bones.
She was just like her father, I smiled.
“Enough fun for now,” I told Silas. Then, turned to her “Well, I see… It’s time to chat, little Nightshade.”
She looked at me, her eyes popping out of her head.
“Leave us,” I said without looking at Silas.
He hesitated, then gave a stiff nod and stepped out, shutting the door behind him.
I stepped closer slowly, and she watched me like a hawk, trying to put on a brave face, but I could see through
her.
She watched me like she was ready to run, knowing it won’t help.
“Relax,” I murmured. “If I wanted you dead, you wouldn’t have made it out of that forest years ago.”
Her jaw tightened. “You left me there to die.”
“Technically,” I corrected, crouching in front of her, “I left you to fate.”
Her eyes flashed with hatred, and goddess, there it was, fire.
“Do you know why you’re here?” I asked.
She didn’t answer, and I didn’t break eye contact with her either.
“You think this is revenge?” I continued. “Or some random act of cruelty?” I chuckled softly. “No, Kaia… this is something far more important than that.”
Her name rolled off my tongue easily because I had never forgotten it, and I never planned to.
From the moment I first heard her father call her affectionately, I memorised it.
“You were supposed to disappear,” I said, studying her carefully. “A loose end tied to a war that should have buried your entire bloodline.”

A flicker of confusion crossed her face, which meant she wasn’t aware of what I was talking about.
“Your father made enemies,” I went on. “Powerful and dangerous ones. The kind who don’t forgive and certainly don’t forget the hurt he caused.”
Her breathing slowed, but her eyes sharpened.
“What are you talking about?” She asked, confused. “Who is my father and where is he?”
“Patient, little puppy!” I grinned. “We will get there soon, and I will tell you when I feel like it. Don’t rush things, alright?. You should have died a long time ago, you know?”
“Then why am I still alive?” she asked quietly.
Now that was the right question to ask me.
I leaned closer, smirking.
“Because,” I said softly, “you turned out to be far more valuable than we expected.”
She stays hooked, her breath catching.
“Do you know what you are?” I asked.
She fell silent, and I took that as she didn’t know, and that was even better for me.
“No,” she whispered. “What are you talking about?”
My smile grew wider.
“Of course you don’t. They made sure of that.”
I reached out slowly enough for her to see it coming, and I tapped lightly over her chest.
“Your blood,” I said, my voice dropping, “is not ordinary.”
Her heartbeat spiked beneath my fingertips.
“There’s something in you,” I continued. “Something your parents, who happened to be my enemies, tried to hide to protect you.”
Her breath caught, and then I leaned in, close enough for her to feel my breath.
“And something I intend to use to my advantage”, I said, sneering.
Her eyes widened, but she didn’t back away.
She looked at me as if I were saying trash, and she was unwilling to believe it.
Suddenly, she shook my hand away, shooting dangers at me.

I laughed; her little attempt to act tough amused me.
She was a little feisty one, still resisting.
Without a doubt, she would be useful to me.
I straightened up, dusting off my hands.
“For now,” I said casually, “you’ll stay alive.”
:
Her lips parted, but before she could speak, I added, almost as an afterthought.
“And don’t bother trying to run again. Silas won’t be so gentle next time.”
I turned toward the door, then paused.

“Oh-and Kaia?” She didn’t respond, but I knew she was listening. “You should thank me,” I said lightly. “Without me, you never would’ve found out who you really are.”
Saying this, I stood up, ready to leave.
She stared at me with wide eyes.
A look of fear and confusion crossed her face, and I sneered.
A delicious combination like that is what I like to see.
“W-Who are you?” she whispered.
I paused mid-step, turning back toward her.
I moved closer again, crouching so our eyes were level.
“Tarick Moss,” I said softly, “is just a name people know.”I tilted my head, studying the trembling in her fingers. “But the truth?”
A slow smile spread across my lips. “Do you really want to know the truth?”
Her throat bobbed.
“I’m the man your parents feared the most,” I murmured. “The man your father tried to kill. I was supposed to make sure that you were dead”
Her face was drained of colour.
“But you didnt die,” I continued, voice threading darkly. You lived which! You weren’t supposed to. Silas swore you were gone-” I clicked my tongue. “…and yet here you are with me again.”
She backed away slightly, pressing against the cold wall of the cell.
“Why?” she breathed. “Why did you keep me alive now?”

“Oh Kaia…” I laughed softly. “You think I dragged you across packs just to reminisce?”

I reached out and gently tapped between her collarbones, right over the faint warmth beneath her skin.
“You have something I need.” She stiffened. “And it’s time,” I continued, “that you use some of that power of yours… to help me.”
Her eyes snapped up in shock.
“Power?” she repeated. “What the hell are you talking about?”
I stopped a few feet away, turning slightly so she could see the grin spreading across my face.
“You really don’t know?” I said, almost disappointed. “Not even a flicker? No one ever told you
what
you are?”
