Chapter 207
Chapter 207
“Not again,” I said, turning to face Kaia.
I wanted to ignore her and leave, but the look on her face stopped me.
She clenched her fists, seething with rage and confusion.
I sighed softly and turned back.
“You’re still asking the wrong question,” I said.
And her eyes snapped to mine.

“I asked you who you are,” she shot back weakly, though her voice trembled from the fever. “You still haven’t answered me.”
“No,” I said. “You asked who I am.” I smiled faintly.
“But what you really want to know…” I stepped closer again, watching her carefully. “…is who you are.”
Her breath caught, and she stopped talking.
“Kaia,” I said slowly, tasting the name, “isn’t your name.” Her breath hitched.
“It’s what you grew up knowing as your identity, but the truth is, that’s not who you are!”
Her lips parted, but she didn’t say anything.
“Your real name…” I leaned in, “Is Kaelis?”
Hearing this, Kaia froze, struggling to keep her balance, and her entire body went stiff.
“No…” she whispered. “That’s not-”
“It is,” I cut in calmly.
Her head shook, faster now. “No, my parents-my family…”
“They don’t care about you”
Tears whipped down her cheeks as her works began to crack.
“They allowed you to get stolen, and they lived happily ever after without you. How sad is your life, little puppy?”
“They knew keeping you around would corrupt the power they hold, and they didn’t want that”
“Tell me what you mean. What power?” She swallowed hard.

I turned back to her fully, hands slipping into my pockets.
“Well,” I exhaled, “since we’re being honest today… Let’s talk about your parents.”
Her face tightened, and her shoulders went stiff.
“My parents are-”

“Are dead?” I finished, raising a brow. “The same parents that your old weakling grandmother told you about?”
“No, Kaia,” I said quietly. “Those two pathetic creatures are not your parents, and they never existed to begin with”
The air left her lungs in a shudder, and she flinched.
“Stop lying,” she whispered.
“Lying?” she said, and I chuckled.
“Kaia, if I wanted to lie, I would’ve given you a worthy story”
I took slow steps toward her.
“You want the truth?” I asked, tilting my head. “Your real name… isn’t Kaia. That name was given to you after you were stolen from your parents, and they lived a better life without you.”
“Your real parents,” I continued, “are Alpha Matthew Nightshade and Luna Morgana Nightshade.”
Her fingers shook, and her eyes watered uncontrollably.
“No…” she whispered, shaking her head”, No. No, that’s not-‘
“It is.” I cut her off gently. “Little Nightshade.”
Her knees almost buckled.
“You were born in the Nightshade Pack,” I said. “As the first daughter of the Nightshade couple.A child the entire pack adored. And I stole you.”
Saying this, I burst out laughing.
Her head snapped up.
“Why?” she croaked. “Why would you-
“For revenge.” My pulse didn’t waver. “Your father tried to have me executed. He destroyed everything I built, and I couldn’t bear to see him happy after ruining my life”
I stepped closer until she had nowhere left to retreat.
“So I destroyed him.” Her breath fractured. “I took his child,” I whispered, “and made sure he would never

find her.”
“He… he never stopped looking,” she whispered. “I saw his face when Katya talked-he was-”
“Broken?” I supplied.
“And Morgana?” I smiled faintly. “She was totally shattered.”
She covered her mouth, tears spilling.
I lifted her chin with a single finger.

“Do you know what’s funny?” A dark glint lit my eyes. “You grew up thinking you were unwanted while the ones who truly loved you drowned in grief for a child they thought was dead.”
I let out a laugh, and she gritted, anger surging through her.
“Stop.” Her voice cracked. “Just stop.”
But I wasn’t done.
“You ask why I haven’t killed you yet, didnt you?”
I shrugged and stood up.
“You’re a Nightshade heir. You carry a powerful gift. And your father unlocked something he should’ve never touched.”
Her vision blurred. “What… what gift?”
“You’ll see.” I turned away. “Besides, there is no reason why you should feel bad about any of this. Your parents were hiding your gift from the world, trying to protect their position because if the world found out what you truly are, they would have you banished, and they didn’t want that.
You should be grateful to me for setting you free to live a normal life away from those power-hungry people.
Kaia looked shaken, as if she wasn’t hearing everything I said, but I knew she could hear me.
“Sleep well…” My smile widened as I walked out. “Melissa Kaelis Nightshade.”
And then I shut the door, leaving her in tears.
The phone in my pocket vibrated twice, and I took it out.
It was a private line.
I exhaled through my nose and picked up, groggily.
“Bad timing,” I muttered, though I already knew I’d answer.
I stepped further down the hall, away from the guards, and pressed the call through.

A voice came instantly.
“Dad.”
:
“I’m busy,” I said, gruffly.
A soft sigh on the other end. “You’re always busy.”
“Did you do it?” My grip on the phone tightened slightly.
“Do what?”
“You know what I mean,” she said carefully. “The Nightshade girl.”
I glanced back toward the cell door.
“Yes,” I answered at last.
“You brought her in.”
“I retrieved what was mine,” I corrected.
