"Eleanor just woke up, so her body is still quite weak. I'll have the staff bring up some easily digestible soup for her shortly."
"Thank you, doctor."
Julian gave a polite, measured nod.
"It's my pleasure."
As the medical staff left the room, a heavy silence settled over the space.
Julian gently helped Eleanor sit up against the pillows, his tone laced with genuine concern. "How are you feeling? Is there anything you want to eat?"
Eleanor shook her head. "I don't want to eat. I have absolutely no appetite. Don't bother anyone to make me food."
Julian let out a soft sigh, displaying a rare level of patience he only reserved for her. "How can you not eat?"
"I just don't want to."
"..."
Standing to the side with her arms crossed, Isabella watched the exchange and thought to herself: The stubborn old woman!
Annoyed and unwilling to stay a second longer, she stood up and addressed Julian. "You stay here and look after your grandmother. I'm leaving. Call me if there's an emergency."
Julian offered a flat hum of acknowledgment, not bothering to turn around.
Eleanor didn't spare her a glance either. The two women had despised each other for years, and Eleanor was more than happy to see her go.
The moment the door clicked shut behind Isabella, the atmosphere shifted.
Eleanor instantly dropped her sickly facade. She raised her hand and smacked Julian hard on the shoulder.
"Tell me the truth right now. What exactly happened between you and Clara? Did you bully her? Is that why she doesn't want anything to do with you?"
"You foolish boy!"
"If I hadn't eavesdropped on your mother yesterday and heard she was planning to set you up on blind dates, how long were you going to hide this from me?!"
