"You're bad. Go away." The old lady cowered behind Seraphina.
Seraphina gently patted her hand before snapping her gaze up to glare at Lauren.
"Are you quite finished?"
Lauren felt a chill crawl up her spine under that icy stare, but she was too used to being vicious to back down in front of Seraphina. "Did I say anything wrong? She wouldn't let go of you, and you just blindly believe whatever she says?"
Seraphina shifted slightly to shield the old lady, then took a slow, deliberate step toward Lauren.
Lauren instinctively stumbled back a half-step. "What are you doing?"
"Lauren, I'm warning you. If you don't watch your mouth, I have zero problem beating the living hell out of you right now."
Her eyes were so terrifyingly cold that a wave of pure terror washed over Lauren.
Lauren opened her mouth to snap back, but looking into Seraphina's eyes, the words died in her throat.
She backed up two more steps, her arrogant tone faltering. "Y-You're an absolute psycho! I'm not wasting my time with you! I have important things to do, so have fun getting scammed!"
She spun on her heel and speed-walked away, breaking into a light jog until she rounded the corner, her silhouette and obnoxious voice finally vanishing from the alley.
The quiet night returned to the narrow street.
Seraphina pulled her gaze back and looked down at the old lady still gripping her sleeve for dear life.
"Sweetheart..." Seeing Seraphina look at her, the cloudy eyes brightened a fraction as she called out again.
Seraphina gently stroked the dry, cracked skin on the woman's hand. "Ma'am, I'm really not your daughter. But don't be scared, I'm going to help you find your family, okay?"
The dispatcher quickly noted the address. "Understood, ma'am. We'll dispatch an officer immediately. Please stay with her, and we will contact you upon arrival."
Seraphina hung up and crouched down in front of the old lady, looking up into her face. "Don't be afraid, ma'am. The police will be here soon, and they'll help you get home to your family."
The woman looked down at her, her lips moving as if trying to speak, but she swallowed the words.
After a long moment, she slowly reached out and gently stroked Seraphina's hair.
"Such a good girl, sweetheart," she whispered.
Just then, the sharp, frantic clicking of high heels echoed from the alley entrance.
Seraphina looked over and saw Lauren marching right back, staring intently at her phone and muttering under her breath, "It has to be this area... the address matches... but why would they live in a dump like this? Why would a VIP designer be here?"
