Since the driver hadn't actually hit anyone or caused massive public damage, combined with his cooperative confession and the ironclad DUI evidence, the police had zero intention of digging any deeper.
Seraphina didn't have any concrete leads to follow up on either, so the matter was essentially swept under the rug.
She exhaled heavily, temporarily burying that nagging thorn in her mind.
The cab pulled up in front of a set of massive iron gates.
The sign read: Keystone Raw Materials Plant.
Seraphina paid her fare and walked inside.
The facility was sprawling, with a highly organized layout.
Manager Liu hurried over from the workshop, gripping a clipboard. He looked a bit nervous to see her. "Ms. Sinclair, why did you come all the way out here yourself? If you needed something, you just had to ask. No need to make this trip."
Seraphina skipped the pleasantries, following Manager Liu straight into the depths of the storage yard.
Manager Liu gave her a rundown as they walked. "This area is our internal inventory. Over there are the shipments marked from our suppliers that haven't been officially logged in yet."
Seraphina nodded, casually picking up a chunk of raw ore to inspect.
The surface texture was incredibly rough, its coloring too dark, and there were several fine stress fractures along the edges. She rubbed her thumb against the cross-section, her brow twitching in displeasure.
"Which supplier sent this batch?"
Manager Liu glanced at it. "Oh, that's from Richfield Resources. It came in the last shipment. The quality is mediocre, and the impurity levels are high. The next few batches will likely be even worse. I brought it up with their procurement team twice, and they claimed they switched mining sources, so they can't guarantee stability right now."
Seraphina tossed the ore back onto the pile. "Let's go. Take me to the neighboring plant."
She spent the entire afternoon touring all three raw material facilities in the area.
After running a thorough comparison, Richfield Resources had the lowest quote, but their ore quality was indisputably the worst.
Another facility named Huayuan offered mid-tier pricing, stable quality, and convenient logistics. Their only flaw was their highly limited production capacity.
Seraphina hung up and marched straight back to the gates of Keystone Resources. She hammered out the contract details with their manager, spending over half an hour pushing through the expedited paperwork.
By the time the official seal was stamped onto the final page, the sky had gone completely dark.
She walked out of the Keystone facility clutching a freshly printed copy of the contract. The cool evening breeze brushed against her face.
She stood on the steps for a few seconds, looking down at the document in her hands, an involuntary smile tugging at her lips.
Her body was exhausted from a long day of grinding, but the sheer sense of accomplishment grounded her.
She tucked the contract away in her bag and started walking down the road outside the industrial park, planning to hail a cab on the main street.
But she only took a few steps before freezing in her tracks.
Parked a short distance away was a gleaming black luxury SUV.
The door swung open, and a woman in a dark green skirt suit stepped out. Her hair was pulled back into a flawless chignon, a striking jade bracelet encircled her wrist, and every movement she made radiated the obnoxious arrogance of someone who spent her entire life giving orders.
