The underlying threat in his words was crystal clear. The Lockwood family carried immense weight in Northport. If Julian was anyone in the corporate circle, he would know better than to offend them.
Give them some face, maintain the partnership, and everyone walks away happy.
Julian gave him a once-over and frowned. "I don't know who you are."
Those few words felt like a physical slap across the face. Dominic's chest heaved with indignation. He opened his mouth to retort, but Madeline hurriedly grabbed his arm.
She frantically shook her head at him.
Madeline was famously arrogant. For her to be this terrified of someone...
Dominic's gaze darkened significantly, but he ultimately swallowed his pride and remained silent.
Julian, of course, couldn't care less about their petty exchange. He had already turned all his attention back to Seraphina. "Are you done here?"
Seraphina nodded. "I'm done."
Julian hummed in agreement. "Let's go. I'll take you home. I still got here too late this time. I should have come earlier."
A subtle warmth rippled through Seraphina's chest.
She clearly remembered not telling Julian she would be in this area today, let alone which specific plant she was visiting.
"It's fine, Julian. You should focus on your own work."
Julian's expression turned serious. "I promised to keep you safe. You think I'm going to rely on useless people to do it?"
He didn't name any names, but the vicious implication wasn't lost on a single person present.
Dominic's brow twitched imperceptibly.
He knew he was being indirectly attacked, but he couldn't exactly call him out on it.
Julian pulled open the passenger door, placing one hand protectively against the roof frame as he gestured for Seraphina. "Get in."
She had put it on silent when she left the office and had completely forgotten to switch it back in the middle of all the chaos.
"I'm perfectly fine."
Julian's tone grew deeply serious. "Seraphina, from now on, if you need to travel far, take me with you or at least have a driver drop you off. I can't stand the thought of you running around by yourself. It's not safe."
A profound warmth softened Seraphina's eyes, but she still shook her head. "It's fine, Julian. Those people are all talk. If they start spewing insults, I'll just ignore them. We live in a civilized society; it's not like they can actually do anything to me."
"You're already incredibly busy. Focus on your actual work. They aren't worth wasting your time over."
Julian glanced at her. "They absolutely aren't worth my time, but protecting my friend is."
Seraphina's eyes crinkled in amusement.
Catching her smile, Julian's lips curved into a grin of his own.
He quickly cleared his throat, adopting a more professional demeanor. "Down to business. Since the Keystone Resources contract is finalized, you don't need to personally handle the raw material supply anymore. From now on, just delegate the coordination with the processing plant to the lower-level staff."
