Seraphina nodded. "Alright, I understand."
She agreed without hesitation.
Julian's expression softened at her words, and he looked away, visibly relieved.
Seraphina leaned back against her seat, her gaze fixed on the road ahead. However, she had no real intention of just dropping the matter completely.
Although the contract signing with Keystone Resources today was an online process, their representative had mentioned that a new batch of raw materials would arrive at the East End facility tomorrow. It was a perfect opportunity to verify the specifications and quality in person. He had told her to drop by if she had the time.
Seraphina hadn't given an immediate answer then, but she had already mentally added the task to her schedule.
Project A at Zenith Energy had just launched, and raw materials were its absolute lifeblood.
While Keystone Resources was known for excellent quality, she wanted to see the stability between batches with her own eyes.
She could have easily delegated these details to someone else, but the initial phases of the project were still a bit chaotic. Making the trip herself would give her peace of mind.
She kept these thoughts to herself, pressing them down.
It was better not to say anything, lest Julian start worrying again.
The car fell into a comfortable silence as they drove steadily onward.
Meanwhile, in the West End.
Madeline stood rooted to the spot, watching the car disappear into the distance. Her face was contorted with fury.
Julian Shaw.
The CEO of Zenith Energy.
She had exhausted so much effort, pulled so many strings, and hosted so many dinners just to secure that supply contract, only to have it evaporate into thin air tonight.
And Seraphina, the woman who had cooked in her house and answered to her every beck and call for six years, was actually Julian's junior from university.
What gave her the right?
Madeline stared coldly at the empty mouth of the alley. The night had swallowed everything, but the hatred in her eyes only burned brighter.
Cynthia stepped forward and gently supported Madeline.
Madeline took a deep breath.
"It's true that Mr. Shaw is Professor Vane's student, but his 'junior' doesn't necessarily mean she studies under Professor Vane too."
Cynthia couldn't quite follow. "What do you mean?"
Madeline's gaze sharpened. "Julian Shaw comes from a massive family empire, but he has a ridiculous number of hobbies. Dancing, ballet, baking, he'll even learn random instruments on the street. He has 'juniors' everywhere."
So that was it.
The unease in Cynthia's eyes gradually melted away at Madeline's words.
That made perfect sense. There was no way Seraphina was actually Professor Vane's student.
She had heard Seraphina took up all sorts of random classes back in the day—cooking, child care. She probably bumped into Mr. Shaw at one of those and became his 'junior.' It was just pure, dumb luck.
A smile crept back onto her lips.
"So Mr. Shaw is the CEO of Zenith Energy," she said, lacing her voice with sudden realization. "No wonder she got to call the shots at the recruitment fair. It seems she does have a talent for pleasing the right people."
