It sounded like an offhand comment, but to Madeline, it was like a lit match thrown into a powder keg.
Madeline whipped her head around, her eyes wide with disbelief. "What did you just say? That bitch was the one calling the shots at the recruitment fair?"
Cynthia feigned a startled reaction. "Madeline... you didn't know? Seraphina was in charge of screening partners for Zenith Energy's new power project. She stood right on stage. Whoever she picked, got the deal."
Madeline's face flushed a furious red.
Of course she knew about Zenith Energy's recruitment fair.
Everyone in Northport's energy sector knew about that massive project.
Securing that partnership meant the sheer weight of the contract could permanently establish any mid-sized company in the industry.
Madeline had tried everything to get Lockwood's in the running with Zenith Energy.
But no matter how hard she pushed, she couldn't even get her foot in the door.
And now Cynthia was telling her the person guarding that door was Seraphina.
Madeline's chest heaved. "How did she pull that off!"
Cynthia stepped closer. "Madeline, don't get upset. Seraphina... she's probably just being used by the executives. She might be miserable behind closed doors."
Madeline took a deep breath and patted Cynthia's hand. "You're the only good one. Sensible, generous, always thinking of others."
She shot Dominic a pointed look. "Whoever marries you is a truly lucky man."
Cynthia smiled faintly and smoothly changed the subject. "Madeline, let's get back to business. We came here tonight to scout raw material suppliers. After comparing a few, have you made a decision?"
The Lockwood Group needed top-tier suppliers to support their overseas expansion, which was the whole reason for their trip out here today.
Madeline frowned. "Look at me, I'm so angry I almost forgot why we're here."
She thought for a moment before replying. "I've visited a few places. Keystone Resources has the best quality, enough production capacity, and solid logistics. The only issue is their price is twenty percent higher than the competition. But you get what you pay for."
