Seraphina paused for a moment but still walked over, calling out, "Grandma."
The old lady looked up. Seeing Seraphina, her cloudy eyes instantly lit up.
She grabbed Seraphina's wrist, her voice laced with pleasant surprise. "Seraphina! What are you doing here? You... you haven't come to see me in days."
Seraphina replied, "Grandma, I've just been a bit busy lately."
The old lady sighed, tightening her grip on Seraphina's hand.
She knew everything.
And she understood.
At the Lockwood family's weekly dinner, Dominic had brought someone else.
She knew he was entirely out of line, but she couldn't control him anymore.
Thinking of this left her filled with guilt and helplessness.
Holding Seraphina's hand, she chatted with her for quite a while.
She rambled on, talking about everything under the sun.
Seraphina accompanied her around the mall for over an hour, helping her pick out a hat and a scarf. The old lady was so happy that the wrinkles on her face seemed to smooth out.
When they were done browsing, the old lady tugged at Seraphina's hand. "Come, walk with me over there to sit for a bit. I'm tired."
The two of them entered a tearoom tucked in the corner of the mall. The old lady requested a quiet private room, closed the door, and had her two maids wait outside.
Only she and Seraphina were left inside the room.
The old lady pulled a document folder from her bag, placed it on the table, and slid it over to Seraphina.
Looking at the red mark on her finger, Seraphina let out a soft sigh.
She remembered Winifred's poorly concealed actions at the estate that day.
That incident was definitely tied to Winifred, and the old lady knew it better than anyone.
In a mansion as massive as the Lockwood estate, there were indeed very few people who genuinely cared for the old lady's well-being.
She remained silent for a moment before tucking the document into her bag. "Grandma, I'll hold onto this money for you for now. Whenever you need it, just let me know."
The old lady offered a relieved smile. "Good, good. As long as you have it, I can rest easy."
She then reached into her bag again and pulled out a card. It was a black card with subtle gold-foiled edges, which she handed to Seraphina.
"Take this one too. Spend as you please, don't hold back."
