Dominic's gaze locked onto Seraphina, the coldness in his eyes practically solidifying.
"Seraphina."
He said her name with an oppressive weight, sounding like a warning and an ultimatum all at once.
His aura was undeniably overwhelming. The crushing pressure of a man long accustomed to power spilled out, making the surrounding air feel stagnant.
Seraphina's back involuntarily tensed, a prickle of unease brushing over her heart.
Just as she began plotting her next move, Julian took a step forward, blocking Seraphina from view. Meeting Dominic's glare, a mocking smirk curled on his lips.
"What's wrong, Mr. Lockwood? Can't handle losing?"
His words seemed to yank Dominic back to reality. He paused, instinctively casting a glance at his surroundings.
By now, everyone's attention was glued entirely to them.
Among the crowd were seasoned veterans of the jewelry industry, as well as renowned figures from scientific research circles.
Their financial resources might not rival the Lockwood Group, but they were heavyweights in their respective fields.
If word got out that Lockwood's was a sore loser with no grace, it would be detrimental to their business partnerships.
The crease between Dominic's brows deepened. By his side, his fingers curled into a fist, loosened, and then clenched again.
If Seraphina wanted to publicly challenge him, he would show her the true meaning of overestimating oneself.
Taking a deep breath, he was just about to raise his bid when Cynthia forcefully clamped down on his arm.
"Dominic, it's really not worth it anymore."
She had figured it out—Julian was dead set on backing Seraphina.
Seraphina didn't care how much of someone else's money she spent. Her only goal was to trample the Lockwood Group and trample her, Cynthia.
If they kept bidding, the price would only skyrocket, endlessly inflating Seraphina's perceived worth.
He gazed at Cynthia, his eyes overflowing with tender pity.
"Don't worry, I'll definitely make it up to you."
Cynthia looked back at him, a gentle, warm smile curving her lips.
She knew he felt guilty, which played perfectly into her hands.
She didn't get this absurdly inflated five-hundred-and-ten-million-dollar item today, but Dominic would undoubtedly give her something of far greater value in return.
She wasn't losing out at all.
She offered Dominic a slight nod, then turned to smile at Julian. "Mr. Shaw, since you both love it so much, we'll let you have it."
Julian's eyes were icy, completely refusing to play along. "Not 'us'. It's for Seraphina."
Cynthia's attempt to look gracious failed spectacularly, and her smile instantly froze on her face.
