A sudden thought struck her—did Gideon even know she was technically his niece-in-law?
He probably had no idea.
Gideon rarely interacted with the Lockwood family to begin with.
Dominic never brought her to any family gatherings, much less introduced her to Gideon.
In fact, before she started working in the industry, she and Gideon had never even formally crossed paths.
It made perfect sense that he didn't know who she was.
So, every time it seemed like he was helping her out, he was really just being strictly professional and impartial.
Thinking this, an indescribable emotion welled up inside Seraphina.
It wasn't exactly disappointment, but it definitely left a bitter taste in her mouth.
She had been married into the Lockwood family for six years, and she hadn't even met all the relatives.
But she quickly shoved that fleeting emotion down.
It was for the best.
She and Dominic were going to divorce soon anyway. The fewer people who knew about her marital status, the cleaner her break would be when she finally left.
Having finished speaking, Gideon had already turned back. His gaze fell upon her face as he made a gesture inviting her forward. "Ms. Sinclair, right this way."
Seraphina nodded and was about to walk.
But Cynthia couldn't stop herself from speaking up again.
She looked at Gideon, her tone much steadier than before. "Mr. Cole, I apologize for my behavior just now. I was out of line."
"However, Seraphina truly isn't suited to help you pick a gemstone."
"After all, she just took a stone with a market value of barely tens of millions and stubbornly drove the price up to over five hundred million. Mr. Cole, if you let her choose for you, you'll end up paying ten times the price for a piece of junk."
She paused, her voice softening defensively. "I'm not trying to target her. I just believe I can help you find a much better piece of material. I'm far more qualified than she is."
She had it all figured out in her head.
All the color drained from Cynthia's face.
The crowd broke into furious whispers, openly mocking her.
Cynthia clenched her fists, utterly unable to force out another word.
Seraphina was genuinely surprised.
Gideon was Dominic's uncle, a blood relative, yet his eyes were so much clearer than Dominic's.
Gideon had already turned away, his tone returning to a mild neutrality. "Ms. Sinclair, let's go."
Seraphina nodded and followed him toward the gemstone stands.
Watching them leave, Julian couldn't help but laugh out loud.
He stepped forward to follow them, but couldn't resist throwing one last glance over his shoulder at Cynthia.
"So this is what a public slap in the face looks like," he remarked, as if speaking to himself, yet his voice was pitched just loud enough for everyone around to hear. "Quite a beautiful sight."
