Cynthia stared in disbelief, her eyes wide with shock.
The sound of the crowd showering Seraphina with praise echoed in her ears.
The scene felt exactly like their school days; no matter how hard she tried, she could never catch up to Seraphina.
First place was always hers, and she was always the center of everyone's admiration.
After being a housewife for six years, how could she still have this kind of luck?
Cynthia clenched her hands tightly, swallowed her bitter resentment, and turned to look at Dominic.
Dominic was also staring at the display counter.
Seraphina stood there, bathed in a soft halo from the overhead lights, looking as though she were practically glowing.
Dominic's gaze lingered on her, unable to pull away.
Seraphina actually knew how to appraise rough stones?
He had no idea.
A soft sigh escaped his lips.
Cynthia's heart sank. Taking a deep breath, she spoke up.
"Dominic, Seraphina is so lucky. I really am far inferior to her." Luck? Yes, it was just luck!
Dominic pulled his gaze back and composed himself. "Not at all. Luck is temporary. True capability is what actually matters."
He looked down at Cynthia. "To me, you will always be the most outstanding."
The corners of Cynthia's lips curled into a smile.
She knew Dominic was saying that for her benefit, and also to give himself a graceful way out.
After all, he had just dropped a hundred million dollars, and the stones he got weren't even worth five hundred thousand.
Meanwhile, the fifty-dollar scrap Seraphina picked up turned into a cool fifteen million.
Anyone would feel terrible facing that kind of comparison.
But she couldn't call it out; she had to lower herself even more to make him feel guilty.
He turned to glare in the direction of the voices, but the men from the Jade Association weren't intimidated in the slightest; they met his gaze with absolute calm.
Within Northport's business circles, the Lockwood family's word was indeed law.
But the jade industry had its own rules and its own inner circle. These people respected craftsmanship and a sharp eye above all else.
Dominic's glare darkened considerably, his knuckles cracking as he clenched his fists.
He shot another look toward Seraphina, the coldness in his eyes becoming almost tangible.
Today's humiliation was entirely her fault.
Cynthia kept her head bowed beside him. "Dominic, it's all my fault..."
Seeing her look so guilty, Dominic felt a surge of sympathy.
Cynthia had always been such a confident, radiant woman. Look at what she had been reduced to.
"It has nothing to do with you," Dominic quickly reassured her. "You have a great eye. The stones available today just weren't the right ones."
