Dominic swept a chilling, authoritative gaze over the crowd.
The collective surge of righteous anger faltered under that single, suffocating look.
A few of the loudest protesters unconsciously took a step back.
The heavy silence descended once more.
Dominic turned his glare back to Seraphina.
"You're inciting a mob, Seraphina."
"Can you afford the consequences?"
His eyes were merciless, brimming with lethal warning.
Seraphina clenched her hands tightly, holding his stare without giving an inch.
"I'm stating the facts. What consequences am I supposed to pay for?"
Dominic's pupils contracted, his gaze growing increasingly hostile.
Just then, another person stepped out from the crowd.
"Don't be scared, girl!"
A young woman held up her phone.
"I recorded the whole thing!"
"It was exactly like you said. That brat shoved the pregnant lady for no reason and then tried to hit her. You stopped her, and when you were trying to leave, she wouldn't let it go! She almost knocked the poor pregnant woman over, and you only pushed her back to catch your friend!"
"Who cares if it was an accident? Even if you did it on purpose, it's self-defense! We have proof, so don't be afraid. If they try anything funny, I'm posting this online."
Seraphina looked at the screen. The footage was crystal clear and captured everything perfectly.
She had gotten it all.
A small smirk tugged at the corner of Seraphina's lips.
Dominic's expression was as black as thunder.
He slowly turned his head, locking his icy gaze onto the girl holding the phone.
She flinched under his stare.
But she gritted her teeth and stubbornly lifted her chin.
"You... you're terrifying," she admitted.
Her voice was trembling.
"But we're more terrified of walking down the street and being randomly attacked."
"If I pretend I didn't see anything today and don't step up."
She knew it all too well.
But it also gave her confidence.
Dominic rarely lost his temper in a crowded public space.
Sure enough, Dominic turned to Yvette, who was still hiding behind him. "Let's go."
Yvette nodded eagerly, clutching his sleeve as she prepared to scurry toward the exit.
Seraphina took a step forward, blocking their path. "Mr. Lockwood, this isn't over yet."
Dominic stopped, looking back at her with eyes full of ice. "What more do you want?"
Seraphina held his gaze. "Your sister knocked someone over for no reason and ruined her clothes with scalding tea. Naturally, she needs to pay for the medical expenses and damages. Oh, and she needs to apologize."
Dominic's face darkened drastically.
It was obvious he was absolutely livid, but Seraphina didn't flinch.
The whispers around them grew louder, the crowd throwing their full support behind Seraphina.
Dominic's hands balled into tight fists. He was a man who commanded absolute obedience wherever he went; he had never been cornered like this in his life.
Yet, surrounded by an angry mob with cameras, his hands were tied.
Finally, he took a deep breath, pulled a pre-stamped checkbook from his breast pocket, scribbled down an amount, and thrust it forward.
