Clara's hand paused over her silverware. "What's this?"
"The key to a storefront," Seraphina said casually. "It's on the south side of town, surrounded by residential areas with great foot traffic. You can go check it out whenever you have time, Clara."
She knew Clara hated sitting idle and loved working, but running a street stall was simply too exhausting, so she bought her a proper shop.
Clara was stunned. "Why would you waste your money on that! You need to save up!"
Zachary and Arthur quickly chimed in, urging Seraphina to keep her money and insisting they had enough to get by.
The Sinclair family was always terrified she would run out of funds.
"Clara, I have plenty of money," Seraphina said, choked up. "I paid for the shop in full. It's non-refundable, and selling it now would mean taking a huge loss. We have to use it."
Seraphina squeezed her hand. "You've worked that cart for years. Now that things are finally getting better for us, you shouldn't be stuck out in an alley."
Zachary picked up the key and pressed it into Clara's palm, his voice thick with emotion. "Just take it, Clara. We're going to run a real business from now on."
Tears welled in Clara's eyes. "Alright. I'll take it."
A wave of warm affection filled the room.
Arthur sniffled. "Come on, enough talking. Let's eat before the food gets cold."
Clara quickly wiped her face. "Right, right. Let's eat."
She picked up a piece of fish and placed it right on Seraphina's plate.
Seraphina took a bite. It was exactly as amazing as it always had been.
Looking at the spread of food and soup on the table, she suddenly paused.
Beatrice Cole.
She had completely forgotten to go over and cook for the old lady tonight.
Seraphina turned to Clara. "Could you pack a couple of portions for me? I need to visit an elderly lady later, and I want to bring her some food."
Clara nodded. "Sure, I'll pick out some of the softer dishes."
But she kept the thought to herself and simply nodded at him. "Gideon."
Gideon gave a curt hum in response.
Hearing the commotion, Beatrice looked up. "Seraphina! You're here!"
Seraphina smiled, walking over to sit beside her. "I ran a little late today, Beatrice, so I couldn't cook for you. But I brought some food from home."
She pulled out the containers. Clara had packed everything perfectly, keeping the dishes fresh and appetizing.
Beatrice leaned in. "That smells wonderful."
She took a fork and tried a piece of BBQ pork.
"Delicious!"
Seraphina's smile widened. "Clara made it. She's the one who taught me how to cook."
Beatrice took a few more eager bites, mumbling, "You two are both so talented, Seraphina."
