Dominic turned on his heel and stormed off.
Seraphina watched his figure vanish around the corner, a sudden, sinking feeling taking hold of her.
But she quickly shoved the unease aside.
The only thing that mattered right now was finding Zachary.
She spun around and continued down the hall.
She slipped through a few more side doors.
There was still no sign of Zachary.
Pulling out her phone, she dialed his number again, only to be met by the same automated voice: "The number you have dialed is currently unavailable..."
Seraphina's heart plummeted even further.
Her brother never ignored his phone.
Especially not today. This contract meant everything to him. He would have his phone glued to his hand—there was no logical reason for him to miss this many calls.
She bit her lip and kept searching.
Rounding another corner,
she had barely taken a step when she spotted two figures standing by the terrace.
One was Cynthia, and the other—was Nadia Griffin.
What was she doing here?
Seraphina's pupils shrank, and she froze in her tracks.
The two women quickly noticed her. They flashed identical, mocking smirks, staring her down with blatant contempt.
Cynthia smiled sweetly, turning back to Nadia. "Go ahead and get it done. Everything is set up perfectly."
Nadia struck a seductive pose. "Perfect. Wait for the good news."
They parted ways, with Cynthia shooting Seraphina one last provocative glare before strutting off.
Seraphina's throat tightened.
It was the agony of repeating "I didn't do it" a thousand times, only for no one to believe him.
The investigation dragged on for nearly four agonizing months.
Finally, the police proved that the two of them hadn't even touched that day. Nadia had inflicted her own bruises and completely fabricated the evidence on her clothes.
She had staged the entire thing because she wanted to hook up with a rich kid—who just so happened to be Zachary's biggest academic rival. The rival hated that Zachary always effortlessly took the top spot in class.
Fueled by jealousy, the rival devised this twisted plot to utterly destroy Zachary's future.
Even after the truth came out, Nadia walked away with barely a slap on the wrist because she was a minor.
Meanwhile, Zachary's life had been permanently and irreversibly shattered.
He missed his exams and carried a permanent stigma everywhere he went. The sheer weight of the trauma nearly pushed the eighteen-year-old boy to jump off a building.
If Clara hadn't woken up in the middle of the night, rushed into his room, and desperately hauled him back over the ledge, Seraphina would have lost her brother forever.
A suffocating wave of despair washed over Seraphina at the memory.
Zachary had spent years in recovery, slowly piecing his normal life back together. So why, on the most pivotal day of his career, was this woman suddenly back after vanishing for a decade?
