She watched her mother crouched on the floor, pressed right up against some random girl she didn't even know.
That girl was laughing so loudly, and her mother was laughing with her.
They were even petting the same cat.
Her mother hadn't pet her in forever.
The longer Lily watched, the more furious she became, until she simply couldn't take it anymore.
She jumped off her stool, sprinted across the street, charged into Clara's cafe, and shoved Phoebe violently.
"You're mean! Don't steal my mom!"
Caught completely off guard, Phoebe stumbled backward and landed hard on her bottom, completely stunned.
Still unsatisfied, Lily raised her foot and kicked the kitten.
The orange kitten let out a terrified shriek and curled into a tight ball.
Seraphina hadn't anticipated Lily charging in like a maniac, let alone acting so viciously.
Seeing Phoebe knocked to the floor and the cat cowering, she grabbed Lily by the arm.
Her voice cracked like a whip. "Lily! You do not treat other children like this, and you absolutely do not hurt animals."
Lily exploded in rage, violently ripping her arm out of Seraphina's grip. She lunged forward, swinging her leg to kick the cat again.
Her shoe connected, sending the kitten tumbling across the floor.
Still seething, Lily began stomping wildly in its direction.
"Don't you hurt that kitty!"
Phoebe scrambled up, shoved Lily away, and dove to shield the cat.
Lily stumbled backward, entirely caught off guard.
The Lockwood family bodyguard, who had chased Lily across the street, charged into the cafe right at that moment.
Without a second's hesitation, he shoved Phoebe brutally to the floor.
Seraphina's eyes went wide. She threw her entire body forward, cushioning the blow so Phoebe wouldn't slam onto the hard tile.
She wrapped her arms protectively around the terrified girl, frantically asking if she was hurt.
Phoebe's face was flushed red, and she stared at Seraphina without making a sound.
Seraphina snapped her head up, glaring absolute daggers at the bodyguard.
"What gives you the right to put your hands on a child?"
The bodyguard stood there in his sunglasses, his face an emotionless slab of stone.
His face darkened instantly.
"What the hell is going on?"
Seeing her father, Lily wailed even louder, scrambling off the floor and throwing herself into Dominic's arms. "Daddy... Mom hit me... She hit me for someone else..."
Dominic furrowed his brow, scooping his daughter up while shooting a lethally cold glare at Seraphina.
Cynthia followed him inside, taking in the scene before speaking in a disgustingly sweet, patronizing tone.
"Seraphina, no matter how angry you are, you can't treat a child this way. She's just a little girl. If there's an issue, you use your words."
Seraphina didn't even bother looking at her, locking eyes directly with Dominic.
"Lily assaulted another child and kicked a kitten. She requires discipline."
"It's just kids playing. There is absolutely no need for you to have this kind of attitude."
"What attitude?"
A sudden male voice cut through the tension from behind them.
It was deep, freezing cold, and radiated absolute dominance.
