Lily licked her lollipop, glanced down the hall, and froze.
Mom?
She watched as Seraphina held a screaming man by his finger, looking incredibly violent.
The people around them were whispering, calling her mother a monster and a psycho.
One of Charles's assistants marched forward. "What is wrong with you! Let him go! This is a respectable institution, not a street brawl!"
Ignoring him, Seraphina looked past the crowd and locked eyes with Lily.
Lily bit her lip, her eyes brimming with tears. Seeing Seraphina looking at her, she burst out crying.
"You're bad!" the little girl screamed. "You're a monster! I don't want you to be my mom anymore!"
Dead silence fell over the corridor.
Staring at her daughter's tear-streaked, furious little face, Seraphina felt a painful twist in her chest.
She replied with freezing detachment, "Don't worry. I have no intention of being your mother."
Lily's crying hitched in her throat as if she'd been slapped.
She stared blankly at Seraphina, tears clinging to her eyelashes, completely shocked into silence.
Dominic's eyes turned lethal. He took a step forward, pulling his daughter behind his legs.
"Seraphina. Have you lost your mind?"
She didn't look at him, but she finally released her grip.
The manager immediately scrambled backward, cradling his hand.
His finger throbbed as if it had been severed, and he was soaked in a cold sweat.
But the pain snapped his brain into focus.
He processed what had just been said.
It was a messy situation, but the kid had called the woman 'Mom.' That meant this violent woman was Dominic's wife?!
Their nearly bankrupt facility was only surviving because of Dominic's massive investment, and he had just insulted Mrs. Lockwood?
And the guy locked in the room was Dominic's father-in-law?
The manager's face cycled through horror, panic, and pale dread, finally settling into a grotesque, fawning smile.
"Mrs. Lockwood... I didn't realize who you were. Please, forgive my stupidity."
"Let my father out," Seraphina ordered flatly.
Five minutes ago, he had been an arrogant tyrant. Now, he was bowing like a servant.
She knew exactly why. It was the title "Mrs. Lockwood."
She was still legally Dominic's wife.
Because of that, these vultures feared her, respected her, and didn't dare cross her.
It was the exact reason she had refused to just quietly sign the divorce papers.
If she surrendered her legal leverage before securing enough power to defend herself, Dominic wouldn't just crush her—he would destroy her family too.
She had to build her own empire first.
Lowering her eyes, she guided her father toward a nearby bench.
Cynthia immediately stepped in her path.
"Seraphina, really. Committing assault in public? Even if you're upset, look at where you are. You carry the title of Mrs. Lockwood. Throwing tantrums like a thug in public doesn't just humiliate Dominic, it embarrasses the entire Lockwood family."
Seraphina looked at Cynthia's flawlessly innocent face and burst out laughing.
"He parades his mistress around town for the whole city to see. If he isn't worried about embarrassing the Lockwood family, why should I be?"
