Two figures emerged from the corner to relieve the current guards.

Six men in total. The ten-second overlap during the handover was their only window.

Seraphina glanced back at Arthur and Owen, then at the other two researchers.

"Go."

She yanked the door open and darted out, hugging the wall.

The group scrambled after her.

As they rounded the corner, one of the researchers tripped, kicking a metal bucket.

Clang.

Seraphina froze.

Six pairs of eyes snapped toward them.

"Runners!"

One guard shouted, and the other five charged forward.

Seraphina shoved her father toward Owen. "Take my dad! Get to the door!"

She spun around to intercept the guards.

The first man was already on her, throwing a heavy punch.

She dodged, grabbed his wrist, and twisted it down sharply. The joint popped out of its socket.

Before his scream could even register, she drove her knee into his stomach, doubling him over.

The second guard lunged. She kicked him hard in the shin, and as he stumbled, she smashed her elbow into the back of his neck.

Two down, four to go.

She slid behind the third guard, grabbing his head and wrenching it sharply.

The fluid, brutal sequence made the remaining three hesitate for a split second.

In that fraction of a moment, Seraphina snatched a metal pipe from the ground and swung it hard into a guard's knee.

He hit the floor with a heavy thud. She reversed her swing, cracking the pipe against another man's ribs.

The last guard turned to run, but she kicked him squarely in the back, sending him sprawling.

In less than a minute, all six men were neutralized.

"Seraphina, the door is open!" Owen yelled from the end of the hall.

Seraphina bolted.

Squinting, she recognized the license plate on the lead black Maybach.

Gideon Cole.

The door opened, and Gideon stepped out, his long legs planting firmly on the asphalt as he watched her approach.

Seraphina slammed on the brakes and jumped out.

"Inside! My dad is still inside! Drake's men are right behind them!"

Gideon immediately turned and signaled his men.

Over a dozen highly trained operatives flooded past him, charging into the complex.

Seraphina turned to follow them.

Gideon caught her wrist. "You stay here."

"I..."

Before she could argue, more headlights flashed from the side as several cars screeched to a halt.

Zachary Sinclair leaped out of the lead car. "Seraphina!"

"Zachary!" The moment she saw her brother, tears pricked her eyes. "Dad is still in there!"
