Nestled against his chest, a smirk tugged at the corners of Cynthia's lips.
A chilling triumph flashed in her eyes.
...
Two days later.
Seraphina grabbed her purse and headed out.
It was finally the day she was scheduled to sign the divorce papers with Dominic.
Twenty minutes later, she pulled into Brighton Chambers.
The parking garage was dimly lit. She slowed down, cruising down the aisle in search of an empty spot.
As she rounded a corner, a figure suddenly darted out in front of her.
She gasped and slammed on the brakes.
Peering through the windshield, she realized the person blocking her path was none other than Cynthia.
Seraphina scowled.
Was the woman out of her mind?
She rolled down the window and leaned out. "What are you doing?"
Cynthia didn't budge.
Instead, she strolled over to the driver's side and leaned in.
Her usually sweet expression had twisted into something venomous, a mocking sneer resting on her lips.
"Do you really think signing those papers today means you've won, Seraphina?"
Seraphina's frown deepened.
Cynthia glared down at her.
"Your husband, your marriage, your child... you couldn't keep any of it. How does it feel to be such a massive failure?"
Seraphina let out a dry laugh. "Yeah, they're all yours now. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness. Seriously, you deserve each other."
Seeing Seraphina's utter indifference, Cynthia's smug smile cracked, replaced by a flash of pure rage.
"Stop acting like you don't care."
Cynthia stepped closer. "Let me make one thing clear. You're walking away with nothing. You won't get a single cent of Dominic's money."
Seraphina raised an eyebrow. This woman was completely unhinged.
Unwilling to waste another second on her, Seraphina glanced ahead, spotted an empty spot on the opposite side, and shifted into drive.
She had fully engaged the brakes. There was zero chance the impact could have caused this kind of injury.
Furthermore, she had watched Cynthia deliberately throw herself at the car.
But here Cynthia was, bleeding profusely onto the cold pavement.
Before Seraphina could process the scene, a figure sprinted toward them.
"Cynthia!"
Dominic dropped to his knees, gathering her halfway into his arms. When he saw the blood, panic overtook his features.
"What happened? Who did this?"
Leaning weakly against his chest, Cynthia raised a trembling finger toward Seraphina.
"I saw she was here, and I just wanted to come over and apologize to her."
Her voice was a fragile whisper. "But I never expected her to..."
She let out a choked sob. "Dominic, don't blame her. I understand why she's angry..."
Seraphina stared in absolute disbelief.
"Cut the act, Cynthia. You threw yourself at my car."
