Cynthia flinched, shrinking deeper into Dominic's embrace.
"It's fine if you don't want to admit it, Seraphina. I wasn't going to hold it against you anyway..."
Her voice faded, making it seem like she was on the verge of passing out.
Outraged, Dominic glared at Seraphina. "You vicious lunatic! I already agreed to your demands! What more do you want? Why would you hurt her?"
Seraphina met his glare head-on. "I had nothing to do with it. I didn't hit her."
His tone turned lethal. "Are you implying she risked her own babies just to frame you? I don't believe a single word that comes out of your mouth!"
Tightening his hold, he swept Cynthia up into his arms.
She was pregnant?
"You better pray she's okay, or I will make you pay for this!"
With that, Dominic turned and sprinted toward the garage exit, holding her tightly against his chest.
Seraphina narrowed her eyes as she watched them disappear into the shadows.
A jerk would always be a jerk.
All it took was one word from Cynthia for him to turn deaf, blind, and totally stupid, tossing out all logical reasoning.
Her gaze dropped to the scattered manila folder left on the ground.
It was the divorce agreement Dominic had dropped in his rush.
She bent down, pulled the documents from the envelope, and flipped through the pages.
The five hundred million dollars had been crossed out, adjusted to three hundred million and the tech firm.
The terms were crystal clear, with the signature lines just waiting for her name.
Cynthia had just sworn she wouldn't see a dime of Dominic's money.
So that entire theatrical performance had been a ploy to stop the signing?
Seraphina gripped the papers tightly.
Was the woman actually psychotic enough to risk her unborn children just to protect her payout?
Staring down at the puddle of blood on the concrete, her frown deepened.
The force with which Cynthia had thrown herself at the hood was substantial.
Even for an elaborate stunt, a pregnant woman wouldn't throw herself that violently.
If things went wrong and she miscarried, the loss would far outweigh the financial gain.
Opening her camera app, she snapped several photos of the scene.
Then, she dialed the police...
Meanwhile, at the hospital.
When Cynthia fluttered her eyes open, Dominic was sitting by her bedside.
His eyes were bloodshot from stress.
"Cynthia."
She stared at him for a moment before her gaze shifted down to her flat stomach.
"Where are my babies?"
Dominic swallowed hard and took her hand. "I'm so sorry, Cynthia. They... they couldn't save them."
She went completely rigid, tears instantly welling in her eyes.
"What did you just say? Say it again."
With a heavy sigh, he pulled her into a hug. "I'm sorry. I failed to protect you."
